OnePlus 6 News, Rumors and Expected features

1. Display Notch

Love it or hate it, you will have to live with a notch. Yes, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has confirmed that the 6 will indeed have an iPhone X like display cut out.

Following the backlash from the community, OnePlus has added a software feature that will hide the notch by blacking out the top strip. The company says its OnePlus 6 will come with a notch smaller than the one on iPhone X.

In terms of display configuration, all we know is that it will have a 19:9 aspect ratio. OnePlus usually uses OLED panel in its phone and that’s likely to remain unchanged.

2. 100+ DxOMark Score for Camera?

Recently a OnePlus 6 teaser spotted online featured DxOMark logo on the top right corner with three question marks instead.

Well, this could be an indirect hint at a three-digit DxOmark score in its OnePlus 6 camera review. There are only a handful of mobile phone cameras which have managed to get past 100 points barrier on the DxOMark test. It will be interesting to see whether OnePlus 6 able to pin down the Huawei P20 Pro which is currently leading the charts on the camera testing site.

The OnePlus 6 camera setup is said to include a 16MP+20MP dual sensors. The OnePlus 6 is said to come with 4K recording at 60fps just as Apple iPhones and Samsung Galaxy S9 family.

Recently, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau posted some high-resolution images taken from the much talked about OnePlus 6 as evident on from the EXIF data gathered from the samples.

The shared OnePlus 6 camera samples make a promising first impression by exhibiting a good amount of details and natural-looking colors. However, it is a way too early to come to any conclusion.

3. Android Oreo and Project Treble

OnePlus has already updated its OnePlus 5T (cases) and OnePlus 5 to Android Oreo 8.1. However, none of the existing OnePlus phones will benefit from Google’s Project Treble as previously confirmed by OnePlus AMA session on its forum.

For those who are hearing about Google’s Project Treble for the first time, it’s a modular structure for Google’s Android Operating system which separates OEM customizations from the core OS.

With Project Treble, OEMs will be able to directly push version updates to your device without affecting customizations done by the OEM. The OnePlus 6 is set to debut with Android Oreo 8.1 which will be garnished with latest Oxygen OS skin on top. Apart from support for Project Treble, the new Oxygen OS will come with new set of iPhone-X like navigation gestures.

4.  New Gestures and Alert Slider

OnePlus recently started teasing new and faster gestures for OnePlus 6. Some of these gestures are rumored to be inspired by the iPhone X. Having said that, OnePlus recently rolled out Oxygen OS 5.1 built for OnePlus 5T which also includes new navigation buttons. These new OnePlus gestures are as follows:

  • Swipe up from middle – Home
  • Swipe up from left/right – Back
  • Swipe up from middle and hold – Recents

The Oneplus alert slider has remained constant over the years. Well, OnePlus has decided to make some changes. Now, alert slider on OnePlus 6 will be multifunctional. Apart from regular functions, it will let you slide to focus which could be a useful feature for photography enthusiasts.

5. WaterProof OnePlus 6

If there is one thing that has been missing from OnePlus flagship phones that has to be Water and dust resistance.  Last year, OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau went on record to say that OnePlus 5 offers some degree of water resistance. However, there was no certification for further assurance.

Currently, Apart from OnePlus 5T, all others flagship phones from Samsung, HTC, Google, and Apple are water and dust resistant.  OnePlus knows that this is something it can’t overlook moving forward. The company has already confirmed water resistance for OnePlus 6.

6. Audio Jack and Dash Charging 2.0

Even though likes of Apple’s and Google’s of the world have started to look past the 3.5mm jack, OnePlus continues to feature it on its smartphones. Several OnePlus 6 leaked images have virtually confirmed the presence of headphone jack. There have been reports that Dash Charge 2.0 shall debut on the OnePlus 6. Existing Dash charge is already one of the fastest, if not the fastest, charging technology on the market right now.

7. OnePlus 6 Avengers Edition For India

We Indians love Marvel’s Avengers, at least that’s what box office collection of recent Marvel movies suggest. The popularity of Marvel cinematic world in India can be accessed from the fact that recently launched superhero movie Black Panter was the first choice of moviegoers in India, even beating Desi Bollywood movies on collection charts in its opening week.

OnePlus also seems to be in love with Marvel’s Avengers as it has inked a deal with Disney India ahead of movie release for OP 6. This suggests Indian OnePlus fans could be up for a treat as an Avengers-themed OnePlus 6 edition is likely in the making. The limited Avenger Edtion of the OnePlus 6 is rumoured to come with up to 256GB of internal storage.
