Credible OnePlus 5 leaks and teasers have been consistently pouring in, and now the company has outed the dual camera on the phone ahead of the imminent official launch.

The extra camera on the OnePlus 5 will be used as a telephoto lens, or has the similar implementation to iPhone 7 Plus. Or rather to the more recently launched Oppo R11. The new OnePlus also shares more than a passing design resemblance with both of these phones.

A report by Verge confirms that the OnePlus 5 houses a 16MP sensor on the rear with f/1.7 aperture wide angle lens and an additional 20MP sensor with f/2.6 aperture telephoto lens. Both cameras use Sony sensors.

The Chinese manufacturer admits that it’s sister company Oppo’s purchasing power helped it procure hardware components, but it maintains that engineering and implementation part was handled by OnePlus itself.

The bottom line is, you will be able to zoom in (2X) and shoot without losing details on the OnePlus camera. You will also be able to shoot images with bokeh effect in the portrait mode.

The black and white images from OP 5 that surfaced a while back added fodder to speculations that OnePlus might be using an sRGB + Monochrome sensor implementation. However, the same isn’t true. OnePlus believes that the largest consumer value [from dual cameras] is in the portrait mode.”

OnePlus has been trying to replicate flagship experience at a mid-range price for three years now, but it’s camera performance hasn’t lived up to the hype. With the OnePlus 5, the company is optimistic about elevating the experience from ‘Good’ to ‘amazing’.

Other than the camera, we have a fairly reliable idea of other OnePlus 5 specifications by now.

The handset will have a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display that adheres to DCI-P3 color gamut, the one you get to see on high-end Macs and 9.7″ iPad Pro. However, It’s unclear as to how the company will be handling color management with base software being Android.
