Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024: Dates, Venue & Participant Brands

Mobile World Congress 2024, the premier mobile event will be back later this month. MWC serves as a platform similar to CES which allows leading tech giants to showcase their upcoming innovations and advancements that will change the scene of technology in the coming year. This time, the MWC is slated to take place from February 26 to February 29 in Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain. Various brands have confirmed their participation

Here is a preview of what the brands are planning for Mobile World Congress 2024.

Brands in Spotlight

HMD

Human Mobile Devices aka HMD has confirmed that it will launch smartphones under Nokia as well as HMD branding. These will mostly be budget and mid-range devices. An exclusive event will take place on February 25th where HMD will discuss its plans. Some of the smartphones will also be unveiled during the event.

Recently two new smartphones codenamed HMD Global Legend and HMD Global Legend Pro were spotted on Geekbench. These were seen with Unisoc T606 chipset which means there will be entry-level devices. Earlier as many as nine HMD-branded smartphones were seen on the IMEI database. The brand has hinted about the colors of its upcoming smartphones. Some of these devices will be seen in pink, green, blue, and other bright shades. Color options indicate it might be a revival of the Nokia Lumia Series. According to Evan Blass, six phones are in the pipeline codenamed Pulse, Legend Pulse+. Legend Plus, Pulse Pro, and Legend Pro.

A blue-colored device was also seen with a 108MP camera and OIS. Another smartphone design included a large rectangular camera module, rounded corners, and angled edges. HMD is expected to announce three devices on February 25, which are also said to come to the Indian market. Nokia phones are being planned for offline markets globally. The press conference on February 25th will livestream at 5 PM IST.

Xiaomi

Xiaomi has also confirmed its participation at the MWC 2024. Xiaomi 14 Series which will include Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Ultra smartphones will be announced on February 25th in Barcelona. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is also said to have a titanium-clad version with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. All devices in the Xiaomi 14 Series will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and run Android 14 HyperOS.

A four-wheeled product announcement is expected to be a highlight for Xiaomi. Xiaomi’s post about MWC has been tagged as Human x Car x Home which means a broader ecosystem. Reports claim Xiaomi might showcase the SU7 EV, its first electric car during MWC. This EV from Xiaomi is expected to give a tough fight to the likes of Tesla and Porsche. SU7 EV has already been launched in China and features a sleek design, advanced tech, and seamless integration with the home ecosystem.

HONOR

Honor has confirmed its press conference for February 25 at 6:30 PM IST. The brand has sent out an invite claiming ‘Magic at MWC 2024’. Honor has confirmed that it will showcase the Magic 6 Series and Magic V2 Series at the MWC. Both series have been launched in specific markets but now we’ll get to know about their global availability. The Magic 6 Series includes two smartphones- Magic 6 and Magic 6 Pro. The devices are powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and loaded with AI capabilities. The Pro version has a 108MP periscope camera with focal lengths from 68mm to 270mm.

The Magic V2 is the thinnest foldable device in the world. It has been showcased in Europe and comes with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and Android 13 OS. During MWC, Honor is expected to announce global availability for Magic V2 RSR, a partnership between itself and Porsche Design. This means it will be the same as Magic V2 but have a different sports car-like design and a higher price point.

Tecno

Tecno announced its first-ever foldable Phantom V Fold during MWC 2023. This year brand will be back with a range of AI and AR gadgets, some smartphones, and AIoT products.

The Tecno Pova 6 Pro smartphone has been confirmed to launch at the MWC 2024. It will be the first in the Pova 6 Series and the first Tecno device to come with Dolby Atmos spatial sound.  Tecno Pova 6 Pro 5G will be the successor to the Pova 5 Pro which was priced at Rs. 14,999 for the 8GB RAM+128GB storage.

Tecno will also showcase some AI and AR gadgets like an intelligent dog robot inspired by German Shephard, Pocket GO Windows AR Gaming Set which will be a combination of AR glasses and a Windows handheld, and two new imaging innovations.

OnePlus

Reports indicate that OnePlus Watch 2 might debut during MWC 2024. The OnePlus Watch 2 is said to have a 1.4-inch AMOLED display and runs a Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset. It is expected to run Wear OS 4 which will allow seamless integration with Android phones.

Apart from OnePlus Watch 2, the brand might also showcase a mid-range smartphone during the event.

Realme

Realme is expected to launch its next flagship Realme GT 5 Pro during MWC 2024. It will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and has already been launched in China last year. The global version will be announced during MWC so, we might get to know about India’s availability as well. The event has been scheduled for February 28.

Realme has also teased the ‘One More Plus’ smartphone that might make its debut during the upcoming Mobile Show. The brand has confirmed it will be a mid-ranger and considering the rumors, it might be Realme 12+. A dedicated microsite has gone live that shows a green-colored device. The smartphone will have a leather finish with a vertical strap in the middle. Realme claims this plus smartphone will have never heard of features and be powered by a Dimensity 7050 chipset.

Asus

Asus has confirmed its participation by announcing its lineup for MWC 2024. It includes Edge servers for AI and 5G applications, and Nvidia Grace Hopper AI Server. The brand might showcase its next non-gaming Zenfone 11 Ultra device that shares some of the features with Asus ROG Phone 8. Zenfone 11 is expected to be larger and have a 6.7-inch display along with being powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Zenfone 11 will also have a limited launch targeting specific markets only. Whether it will come to India or not remains to be seen.

Motorola

In October 2023, Motorola teased a one-of-a-kind bendable smartphone that can be worn like a bracelet. While there haven’t been any leaks about the smartphone till now, it might make its debut at the MWC 2024.

Nothing

Nothing Phone 2a, an affordable device by Carl Pei’s brand has been confirmed to be launched during MWC 2024. It offers glyph lighting, a transparent back, almost stock Android OS, and is powered by a Dimensity 7200 chipset. It might feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz display.

Sony is expected to showcase its high-end Xperia 1 VI during MWC 2024. Insiders claim that Sony will offer a triple camera setup on this one including a 48MP main sensor. It will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and have thick bezels and a slightly taller ratio. Additional features like an IP Rating, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a dedicated camera app will also be available.

Samsung

Samsung showcased the first look of Galaxy Ring in January and we might get to see more of it during the MWC. A lower-budget mixed reality headset might also be teased by the brand. Samsung has also confirmed that it will exhibit its digital AI and Cloud tech during the event.

Google

Google doesn’t host keynotes during MWC and the same will continue this time as well. However, the company will be in attendance and focus on a suite of cloud computing services.

Lenovo

Lenovo will be one of the most popular brands in the MWC this time. It is gearing up to announce “AI for All” under which the brand plans to showcase new AI PCs and edge computing solutions.

Reports claim Lenovo will showcase a transparent laptop with a bezel-less display and transparent screen. It will belong to the ThinkBook lineup and have a digital keyboard with capacitive buttons. It will run on Windows 11.
