Microsoft’s Phone Link Software Can Now Share Files With An iPhone: Here’s How It Works

The Redmond-based tech giant Microsoft is adding another ability to its Phone Link software. Going forward, users will be able to share files from a Windows laptop or computer to an iOS device using the Phone Link app. The feature will be available on Windows 11 as well as on Windows 10. Users should be able to access it via the Link to Windows app in the App Store.

  • First, users must have an iPhone that runs iOS 16 or higher. In other words, the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE 2016, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus don’t support the functionality.
  • Then, they should have the latest version of the Link to Windows app (version 1.24112.73 or higher) on their iPhone.
  • The Phone Link software installed on the Windows PC must be version 1.24112.89.0 or higher.

At the moment, the feature is only available for users enrolled in the Windows Insider Program. If someone is using their iPhone with Phone Link for the first time, they’ll see the option for sharing files during the Phone Link setup. However, if you’ve already paired your iPhone with the Phone Link in the past, you can set up the file-sharing feature by going to aka.ms/addAccount.

How To Share A File From iPhone To Windows PC?

  • Select a file or a set of files on your iPhone.
  • Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Next, users should choose the Link to Windows option and tap the device with which they wish to share the files/files.

  • On a PC, select a file or group that needs to be shared.
  • Right-click on the file and select “Share.”
  • Select “My Phone” and wait for the files to be shared.
  • If one doesn’t see the “My Phone” button, select Phone Link and then choose the required device.
