Microsoft Surface Launch Event: Surface Pro 9 tablet, Surface Laptop 5 & Studio 2+ announced

Microsoft held a big launch event last night and staying true to its expectations, the event was jam-packed with announcements about new and innovative products. The company launched Surface Pro 9, Surface Laptop 5, and Surface Studio 2+ along with many other accessories. Read on to know more about all that was announced during the event.

Microsoft Surface Pro 9

Microsoft launched the tablet cum laptop Surface Pro 9 which comes in 2 variants. One variant of the device is powered by Microsoft’s SQ 3 chipset that has been made in partnership with Qualcomm. This variant is 5G capable and comes with up to 16GB RAM and up to 512GB storage. As for the other variant, that one is powered by an Intel 12th Gen Core i7 processor with an Iris Xe GPU. This variant comes with up to 32GB RAM and up to 1TB of storage.

Apart from the difference in the processor, other specs are the same for both variants of the device. It flaunts a 13-inch display with 2880×1920 pixel resolution, Gorilla Glass 5 protection, and a 120Hz refresh rate. Connectivity options include WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.1, USB 3.2 ports, a single surface connect port, and a keyboard port. The 5G model has an extra slot for nano SIM. The Microsoft Pro 9 powered by Intel promises to give 15 hours of battery life while the one with the Microsoft chipset promises 19 hours of battery life.

It runs Windows 11 and comes with a Tablet Pen that has a microactuator inside. It comes with Voice focus, exclusive NPU features, and a good front camera.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 9 comes with a starting price of Rs. 82,200 in India. The tablet cum laptop has got a new Liberty floral print design in blue color that has been made in collaboration with London-based design house Liberty.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 5

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 comes in 2 display variants. the base model has a 13.5-inch display with a 2256×1504 pixel resolution whereas the higher model sports a 15-inch display with a 2496×1664 pixel resolution. The higher variant weighs 300 grams heavier than the base one.

Both the variants support Dolby Vision IQ and are powered by an Intel 12th Gen Core i7 processor paired with 32GB RAM and 1TB storage. It has Iris Xe GPU and features like Dolby Atmos, an HD camera, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and more. The laptops pack 60W charging support and come with various ports like USB C, Thunderbolt 4, USB-A, and an audio jack. It has up to 18 hours of battery life and has a sleek and light design. It runs Windows 11.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 starts at Rs. 82,200 for the base model and goes up to Rs. 3,53,800 for the higher variant. The base model comes in 4 colors- Platinum with Alcantara, Sage Green, Matte Black, and Sandstone. The higher model has a Platinum and Matte Black Finish.

Microsoft Surface Studio 2+

A premium Surface Studio 2+ has also been announced by Microsoft. It comes with a Zero Gravity Hinge and is powered by an Intel 11th-Gen Core i7 processor paired with a 6GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 CPU, 32GB RAM, and, 1TB storage. The desktop screen can be adjusted with just a one-finger push.

The gadget comes with a TPM 2.0 chip for enterprise-grade security and BitLocker support. It has a 28-inch display, Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and Dolby Vision support. Port options include 3 USB-C, 2 USB-A, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It comes with a Surface Pen, Surface Keyboard, Surface mouse, and a power cord with a grip release cable.

Microsoft Audio Dock

It is a premium audio speaker good for music listening and Teams a fully featured docking experience on the back side, allowing you to connect a PC up to monitors and other peripherals. It has an HDMI 2.0 port, 2 USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 ports, and one USB-A 3.2 port. It has a 15W woofer and two 5W tweeters for better audio. The speaker comes with dedicated controls along the top, including a dedicated Teams button, mute button, and volume buttons. The Pre-orders have gone live for 250 USD.

Microsoft Presenter+

A new Teams remote peripheral has also been announced. Microsoft Presenter+ is a remote that lets one control their PowerPoint presentations, and point and highlight things on the screen. You can also mute/unmute yourself with a click of a button. It can work up to 32 feet away and has 6 days of battery life on a single charge. It comes with a USB-C charger and is now up for pre-order for 79 USD.

Microsoft Adaptive Accessories

Microsoft has announced some adaptive accessories as well. the lineup includes a mouse, wireless hub, and separate buttons. These accessories are affordable as they have been priced between 15 dollars and 45 dollars. The mouse has 3 separate components, the wireless hub can connect up to 3 devices wirelessly and 3D printed grips help with Classroom Pen 2.

Microsoft Designer

It is a new graphics design app with AI capabilities built in. The app is powered by DALLE-2 technology and can create multiple visuals just by simply typing in what we want to see in our project. It is a crazy technology that makes creative tasks simpler.

Microsoft Bing Image Creator

The same AI-based DALLE-2 tech is also coming to Microsoft Bing. Users will now be able to generate images just by typing in a few keywords. It will launch in a limited preview in the coming months.

Microsoft Create

Microsoft wants to highlight the many apps and services it has under the Microsoft 365 umbrella that are designed to help consumers create content. Apps like Clipchamp, Designer, Word, Powerpoint, OneNote, and more will be bought in one big discoverable place.
