MediaTek Dimensity 8450 Launched With All-Big Core Design, Mali-G720 GPU, and Agentic AI Support

The Taiwanese chip manufacturer MediaTek has announced the launch of a new chip: the Dimensity 8450 SoC. It features an all-big core design inspired by MediaTek’s flagship mobile processors, making it 30% faster than competing platforms. The company unveiled the chipset at the India Dimensity Summit.

MediaTek Dimensity 8450 Key Features

Firstly, the Dimensity 8450 SoC features eight Arm Cortex-A725 cores (6MB L3 cache + 5MB SLC), which deliver higher peak performance while reducing power consumption. Then, the chipset features the Arm Mali-G720 MC7 GPU for handling video games or other demanding workflows. For gaming, the chipset features HyperEngine MAGT 3.0.

With respect to memory and storage, the processor can handle LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 + MCQ storage. The Dimensity 8450 SoC features the NPU 880 with an Agentic AI Engine that supports global GenAI models, as well as mainstream large language models (LLMs). The engine should also power the AI Camera experience embedded in the native app.

Speaking of the camera, the chipset features the Imagiq 1080 ISP (supports a maximum resolution of 320MP) that provides multi-frame EIS for enhanced 4K60 HDR (HLG) videos, zero-lag HDR pictures, and 100% PDAF technology. There’s a Live Broadcast Booster that enhances the clarity of users’ faces during livestreams (while simultaneously consuming seven percent less energy).

The Dimensity 8450 processor supports a WQHD+ display with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz and dual-screen support. Connectivity options on the chipset include Sub-6 GHz 5G, 3CC Carrier Aggregation, peak download speed of 5.17 Gbps, and support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth v5.4.

MediaTek Dimensity 8450 Availability

The soon-to-launch Oppo Reno 14 Pro will be the first Indian smartphone to feature the Dimensity 8450 SoC. The official press release sent by the brand also mentions that “Oppo will launch another smartphone powered by the chipset in its K-series soon.
