Lenovo Restructures Management, Motorola Head Rick Osterloh Moves Out

The Chinese smartphone and PC manufacturer has initiated a major restructuring, following which Motorola Head Rick Osterloh is moving out . This management juggle will take place across various verticals of Lenovo’s business including PCs, detachables, tablets, phablets, gaming and smart home products across Windows, Chrome and Android platform, which will be clubbed under new PC & Smart Device Business Unit.

Ever since Lenovo announced the merger with Motorola , company restructuring was on the cards. In early January 2016, company made the headlines with its plans to phase out Motorola branding with ‘Moto by Lenovo’ in all its feature smartphones and smart watches.

Rick Osterloh was the man who steered Motorola team through testing acquisition phase at a time when Dennis Woodside left the company to join Dropbox as new Chief operating officer (CEO).

Nonetheless, after this shuffle within the Lenovo’s organization pyramid Gianfranco Lanci –a former Acer executive and current Lenovo CEO, will lead PC & Smart Device Business Unit. Apart from this primary unit, whatever remains of Lenovo’s existing business, will answer to Xudong Chen and Aymar de Lencquesaing, who will work as co-presidents, directly under Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing.

Lenovo in hits official statement heaped praises for Osterloh and thanked him for his leadership during a tough phase.  “His steady leadership since Lenovo’s acquisition is appreciated and Lenovo wishes him continued success in the future.”
