JioPhone Next launches with optimized Android and India-specific features

Jio and Google formed a strategic partnership last year. Finally, that partnership has reaped its first fruit in the form of JioPhone Next. This Jio and Google co-developed phone comes with an extremely optimized version of the Android operating system. It is built for India and thus has several features tailored for the local audience such as multilingual support.

Here is everything you need to know about the JioPhone Next:

JioPhone Next India Price and Availability

JioPhone Next will become available from September 10, 2021, onwards in India. Reliance Jio is yet to announce JioPhone Next’s price in India. If the words of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani is to be believed, it will be the most affordable phone in its class.

JioPhone Next Features

Most of the details about JioPhone Next are yet to be revealed. As per the sneak peek given at the Reliance AGM (Post IPO) 2021, this fully-featured smartphone co-developed by Google & Jio comes with features such as Voice Assistant, Automatic read-aloud of screen test, Language translation, smart camera with augumented reality filters, among various other things.

This is designed for voice-first operations and users will be able to interact and interface in their native language. The Read-Aloud and Translate Now feature can be initiated with a simple tap and the users will have the on-screen texts (as part of web pages, apps, messages, and even photos) converted or read out to them in their own language.

Google Assistant on the JioPhone Next is tightly integrated with various Jio apps. And with something called App Actions, the users can ask Google Assistant for for the latest cricket scores, weather update, play music on Jio Saavn or check the balance on My Jio.

The JioPhone Next smartphone appears to sport a large touch-sensitive screen with noticeable bezels at the top and bottom. The phone seems to house a single camera with a flash at both front and back. From the teaser images, one can spot a volume rocker and power key on the right edge of the phone.

As you’d have guessed, the phone comes preloaded with the Google suite of apps including Google Play Store, Google Camera, Youtube, Chrome, and others. Similarly, Jio apps such as Jio TV, Jio Cinema, Jio Saavan, and a few others can be spotted in the official teaser image.

In its announcement, Google assures a “great camera experience” and the “latest Android feature and security updates” for the JioPhone Next.

Lastly, it seems that the handsets will be out in two colors — black and blue.

Apart from JioPhone Next, during the investor meeting, Mr. Ambani also revealed Reliance’s investment in 5G, Artificial intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, and Mixed Reality technologies.

Reliance is working to make India 2G Free and 5G enabled. Reliance subsidiary Jio Platforms have grown indigenous 5G technology and have run 5G standalone network trials in its Navi Mumbai center after regulatory approvals. The company claims to have achieved 1GBPS speeds on its in-house Jio 5G solutions. All these sound promising and we look forward to seeing how it all pans out in the future.
