iOS 16.4.1 and iPad 16.4.1 rolled out with key vulnerabilities fixes

Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has released both iOS 16.4.1 and iPadOS 16.4.1 for iPhones and iPads, respectively. The update comes after vulnerabilities were detected in the previous iteration of the iOS affecting Siri and other functions.

First, the IOSurfaceAcceralator vulnerability has been fixed. It could’ve allowed an app to execute arbitrary code having been equipped with kernel privileges. Second, Apple has fixed a WebKit vulnerability that had the nature to allow maliciously crafted web content to executing code on the device. With that being said, iOS 16.4.1 and iPadOS 16.4.1 will fix the issue thanks to the improvement made in memory management on compatible devices.

Users must have received a push notification regarding the incoming update. If not, you can head over to Settings >> General >> Software Update and check for the same. Once you spot the update, it’s simply a few clicks from download to install and viola, you are all-secured.

The latest iteration fixes Siri but wasn’t able to respond in some cases. Additionally, hands emoji on iOS will now show skin tone variations that were unavailable with the iOS 16.4 in place.

Android has a very fragmented distribution system, iOS’ distribution is solely controlled by Apple. The latter releases updates across all the compatible and eligible devices at one go. The tech juggernaut is already gearing up for iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5 as it is under testing. It will arrive before making the transition to iOS 17 set to make its introduction at WWDC 2023 on June 5. As per the timeline, iOS 17 will make the official debut across devices this fall with the iPhone 15 series launch.
