TL;DR

  • The Intel Core Ultra 9 288V provides 68% better average frame rates than Qualcomm chipsets.
  • The series consists of nine processors, starting from the Core Ultra 5 226V processor with a 4.5GHz max turbo frequency all the way up to the Core Ultra 9 288V processor with a 5.1GHz max frequency.

Earlier this year, Intel showcased its Lunary Lake CPUs at the Computex exhibition held in China. Now, the chip manufacturer has officially revealed the chipsets in the series, called Core Ultra 200V. Unlike Intel’s Meteor Lake processors, the Lunar Lake chips offer better performance while consuming lower power. Naturally, the new chipsets compete with the Intel Snapdragon X Elite and a couple of AMD’s system-on-chips that provide performance in a compact form factor.

Intel Lunar Lake Processors: Overview

The processors consist of performance and efficiency cores, where the latter can handle 68% more instructions per clock. Regarding peak performance, Intel claims up to 80% improvement when compared to the Meteor Lake processors. Further, the built-in graphics processor is 30% faster on average, allowing users to use up to three 4K monitors at a time, a feature that could be useful for graphic designers and video editors. The processors’ power consumption has decreased by 40 to 50%.

The New Processors Are Significantly More Efficient

The New Processors Are Significantly More Efficient

As mentioned in a report by The Verge, Dell’s new XPS 13, powered by Lunary Lake processor and a 55Wh battery pack, not offers up to 26 hours of 1080p Netflix streaming (at 150 nits), up from 18 hours with the previous model. The prototype Asus Zenbook S 14 unit, with Intel Core Ultra 9 288V processor, lasts 9.9 hours on Microsoft Teams, while the machine powered with Qualcomm X Elite processor lasts 9.4 hours. An AMD HX 370-powered machine managed to last 8.2 hours on the same test.

Intel Has Improved The Gaming Performance As Well

The Intel Core Ultra 9 288V provides 68% better average frame rates than Qualcomm chipsets and 16% better frame rates than AMD chipsets. So, while users can expect Atomic Heart at 34 fps with Qualcomm chipsets, Intel’s Core Ultra 9 288V can offer 45 fps, a significant upgrade. Another popular title, Resident Evil Village, averages out at 41 fps with Qualcomm chips and 76 fps with the Lunar Lake chip.

Additionally, the new chips feature better connectivity. Laptops powered by the Lunar Lake processors will come with Wi-Fi 7 for high-speed wireless transfers and Bluetooth v5.4 for stable connections. For versatile wired connectivity, the laptops will feature at least two Thunderbolt 4 ports.
