The Meta-owned instant messaging platform Instagram is adding new messaging features to improve the user experience. These features make messaging more flexible and enjoyable for users. First, users can edit messages if they make typos or errors. Second, they can disable read receipts to improve their privacy. Further, they can save stickers and change chat themes within the app. That said, here’s more about each new Instagram messaging feature.

Edit Messages on Instagram

Instagram edit messages

Users can now edit messages for up to 15 minutes after sending them. To make changes to a message, users can press and hold on to the sent message and then choose “edit” from the dropdown menu. It is important to mention that such messages appear with an “Edited” tag in chats. Hence, it’s not like the other person won’t know when you change a message. Nonetheless, it’s a feature that increases convenience by allowing users to make any grammatical or misspelled changes to their Instagram chats.

Disable Read Receipts For All Chats Or One Chat

Another feature that has made its way to the app is the option to disable read receipts. As part of the latest Instagram feature drop, users can turn off read receipts, not allowing others to check whether the message has been seen. To turn the feature off for all chats, users should head to Instagram > Settings and privacy > Message and story replies > Show read receipts, and disable the feature by pressing the toggle to the right.

For turning off read receipts for individual chats, open a conversation, tap on the username at the top, select “Privacy & safety” in the next menu, and turn off read receipts from the following menu.

Save Stickers And Change Chat Themes

Apart from this, users can now save their favorite stickers in DMs by pressing and holding the sticker they wish to save. The next time they want to use it, they’ll find it at the top in the stickers section. Additionally, stickers, GIFs, videos, photos, and voice messages are available when users reply to a message. Last but not least, users can now change the theme for a chat by tapping the chat name on the top, going into themes, and selecting one from the available options.

Soon, Users Can Pin Chats On Instagram Too

In the near future, Instagram users will also be able to pin up to three group or personal chats at the top of their inbox, similar to how one can pin chats in WhatsApp. To pin a chat, users should swipe left or tap, hold on to a chat, and then select “Pin” from the available options. Following this, the chat will appear at the top of the user’s inbox, along with a pin icon. This particular feature has proven to be very useful on WhatsApp, allowing users to access a couple of chats that they open regularly quickly, and it should also benefit users on Instagram.
