TL; DR
  • Until now, the Exter S(O)+ was the most affordable variant with an electric sunroof, costing buyers Rs. 7.86 lakhs (ex-showroom).
  • However, now that title rests with the newly-launched Exter S Smart trim, which costs just Rs. 7.68 lakhs (ex-showroom), making it around Rs. 18,000 cheaper than the S(O)+ variant.
  • While the baseline Exter SX Smart trim (paired with a five-speed manual transmission) costs Rs. 8.16 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The Hyundai Exter commands a unique position in the automaker’s lineup. Although the vehicle is based on the platform used for Grand i10 Nios (which makes it affordable), it has the characteristics of a compact SUV, such as raised ground clearance, an elevated seating position, etc.

While the Exter offers enough features for its price, Hyundai has decided to pick up the most sought-after feature in the Indian market — a sunroof — and make it available to a broader customer base. Most recently, the company announced two new trims for its compact SUV: the S Smart and SX Smart.
