Looks like Android One is back in business. Post all the hype and attention Xiaomi Mi A1 generated, we are seeing more and more names being associated with Google’s program that essentially meant to deliver the pure Android experience and speedy updates to affordable devices.

Last week, we heard reports of an existing Moto X4 Android One edition and now a well-known HTC leaker LabTooFer has revealed on twitter that Taiwanese manufacturer is also working on a mid-range Android One device, HTC Ocean_Life. This was later further validated by @EVleaks.

If you have been keeping tabs, you must know that Google has slackened its Android One guidelines to rope in more OEMs. A lot perhaps. Just as Mi A1 had a few of Xiaomi’s own apps (three to be precise), HTC’s Android One phone is also expected to retain signature HTC features like EdgeSense, Usonic, Zoe and their stock Camera.

HTC Ocean_Life Android One Phone Expected Specifications

Going by the previous leaks, HTC Ocean_Life will be powered by Snapdragon 630 SoC, will have a compact 5.2-inch Full HD display, 16MP cameras on front and back, Bluetooth 5.0 and 2600mAh battery. The software on the phone, stock Andriod with some HTC additions, will be S9.0 A1.

Why new Android One Phones make sense

Stock Android was one a rare spotting and was only something you could get on Google’s own phones or on a bunch of Motorola devices. But that’s not the case today. There are more than a handful of phones that are lifting Google’s vision off the shelf simply because it’s light and efficient software that can be updated without much hazel.

However, we have to admit that we like the OnePlus approach best. That is to use pure Android design and add some useful/missing features to make life simpler. That’s precisely where the Android one phones are heading.

There will be lots of pure and light software around but life won’t be monotonous. It will not all be the same.
