Amazon Food delivery service kicks off in India

On the same day that Zomato and Swiggy began their alcohol home delivery, Amazon has rolled out its own food delivery service, which is aptly called “Amazon Food”.

It is being rolled out in a phased manner. Beginning with select parts of Bengaluru. These are the 4 pin codes where the service is currently available – 560048, 560037, 560066, and 560103.

If you’re an eligible user, you should see the feature within the regular Amazon Shopping app.

That said, the company is yet to reveal the criteria to select restaurants and whatnot.

In an email statement to Gadget360, Amazon India has remarked, “We are launching Amazon Food in select Bengaluru pin codes allowing customers to order from handpicked local restaurants and cloud kitchens that pass our high hygiene certification bar. We are adhering to the highest standards of safety to ensure our customers remain safe while having a delightful experience.”

Besides, the brand has also highlighted how the service will be driven by customer feedback and is aimed at aiding local restaurants whose business has got affected by the pandemic lockdown.

Speaking of which, there couldn’t have been a better time to launch the home delivery service. So, that’s one more outlet for people locked up inside their homes to order food, even though it’s limited to one city for the time being.
