The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 (review) is one of the most impressive phones under Rs 15,000 available in India right now. Having said that, if there is one thing which we didn’t like about the phone it has to be the Snapdragon camera app. The app UI is extremely clumsy and it bogs down what’s otherwise good camera hardware. Even after the arrival of 6GB RAM variant, things haven’t really changed much.
Well, an XDA senior member – Shakalaca, may have found a solution for the Zenfone Max Pro M1’s troublesome camera. Thanks to the developer, you can now enable the Camera2API on the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 without rooting the device.

How To Enable Google Camera2 API on Zenfone Max Pro M1 without Root?
As per Shakalaca, to enable Google2 API on Zenfone Max Pro without root one has to enter fastboot and then enables Camera HAL 3. This method has already been tested and validated by a number of XDA senior members. Therefore, it is safe to presume it will work if you follow the step as advertised.

A step-by-step guide to enable Camera2API on Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1
- You need to enable Developer mode on the phone first. To do so go to Settings>About Phone> Build Number tap seven times. Once done you will get a pop “you are a developer now.”
- Enter Developer Options and toggle on the USB debugging option.
- Next step is to enter Fastboot mode, to do so switch off your phone first. Now, press and hold the ‘Power’ and ‘Volume Down’ buttons together for a few seconds. You should be in the Fastboot mode now.
- Now, turn on your PC (Windows/Linux/Mac), and make sure all the necessary drivers are installed and Android ADB is in place.
- Connect the phone to the PC and launch Powershell Window / Command prompt / terminal based on your OS.
- Make sure that it points to the same directory where the fastboot binary is located, and then enter the following command:
Windows Command Prompt:
fastboot oem enable_camera_hal3 true
Windows PowerShell:
.\fastboot oem enable_camera_hal3 true
macOS or Linux Terminal:
./fastboot oem enable_camera_hal3 true
After all this hard work, all you have to do is download the Zenfone Max Pro M1 Google Camera Ported version from XDA labs and install it on your device.
