Meta-owned social media platform, Instagram keeps rolling out new features every now and then to make the experience even more engaging. Recently, Instagram rolled out a new feature wherein users will be able to add not one but multiple audio tracks to their IG Reels. Earlier only one single track could be added to a reel but now this has changed. The new feature has been made available for some users across the globe and will go official for all within a few days.

Multiple Audio Tracks on Instagram Reels
Head of the platform, Adam Mosseri has announced the new feature via a post on Instagram. It states that a user can add up to 20 tracks to a single Insta reel, thus allowing them more creative freedom to create engaging content. The creators can also align the audio with text, edit the reel with stickers, and more. If they want, they can also make the audio clips overlap and the app will create a fade effect on its own.
While announcing the feature, Instagram stated, “With the flexibility to pair the right tracks with the right clips at the right time, one can express their creativity the way that feels right for them and their audience.”
Using this feature, content creators will be able to create mixes that will get saved with attribution to them. All others will be able to reuse these mixed audio clips too. The feature will be available to users in India starting today and will be rolled out in a phased manner.

How to add multiple audio tracks to IG Reels

- To use this feature, Instagram users will have to press the “add to mix” button in Instagram’s video editor if they have received the update.
- The users will need to choose the tracks they want to include, choose specific patterns of the tracks, and decide where they want to place them.
- After a reel is posted, other users will be able to see all the tracks included and will view a “use audio mix” button for their videos. They can use the mix created by the creator for their own videos.
Note- Please keep in mind that the feature is rolling out in a phased manner so it might not be available on your account as of now, but it will be in a few days. As for me, the feature hasn’t been rolled out yet.

Instagram head Moseri had announced that Instagram would lay special focus on prioritizing short-form content for the platform. The exec believes that short-form content will be shared more often by the users. This fulfills two objectives- connecting users with their friends and enabling them to explore the videos of their interest. Earlier in 2018, Instagram announced IGTV wherein users could post hour-long videos. However, it was discontinued in 2022 as it didn’t get very popular and the focus shifted to Reels (in 2023) which went viral in no time.
Reportedly, Instagram is also testing a new feature called “Ad Breaks” with a small section of users which might let users see unskippable ad breaks. More will be known when the feature launches.
