In the financial year 2024, around 50% of the cars sold in India belonged to the SUV segment. In a market where the majority of cars sold are SUVs (from micro-SUVs to full-fledged SUVs), automakers are planning to release multiple models, both in the ICE and EV variants. Here’s a quick compilation of the SUVs that will debut in India in 2025.

Kia Syros: Should Offer Space And Comfort Than Sonet

First, we’ll begin the list with an ICE variant that will break cover in December but reach showrooms in January 2025. We’re talking about the Kia Syros, which will be placed below the Seltos. When compared to Sonet, the sub-4 meter SUV that the company already sells, the Syros will offer more space in terms of legroom on the second row, a distinct design that isn’t like anything we’ve seen on the company’s lineup, and a slightly different price point.
We already know that the compact SUV will feature vertical DRLs on the front, a panoramic sunroof (first in the segment), and a boxy profile. In terms of engine options, the vehicle will come with a 1.2-liter naturally-aspirated petrol engine, a 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine, and a powerful 1.5-liter diesel engine. With the engines, the car should also offer multiple transmission options, like on the Sonet.

Mahindra XUV 3XO EV: An Electric Avatar Of The Might ICE Vehicle

After launching the XEV 9e and the BE 6 with a radical design and exceptional features, the Indian automaker Mahindra could release the electric version of the XUV 3XO. As and when the vehicle releases, it could be placed below the XUV 400.
Although the vehicle will carry a new design language (evident in recent models), it might feature the same powertrain as the XUV 400. Most recently, a camouflaged unit was spotted with a similar design and look as the XUV 3XO, carrying the same badging as the ICE version but with an EV badge at the end.
Mahindra XEV 7e: An Electric Version Of The Popular XUV 700

As long as we’re talking about Mahindra, it is important to mention that the automaker is also testing an electric version of its popular seven-seater SUV, the XUV 700. Most recently, the company tested the vehicle in Nagpur. This indicates that the company is nearing mass production of the vehicle and could launch sometime next year, and it will surely be among the top SUV launches of 2025.
Based on the INGLO platform, the vehicle will offer buyers a complete SUV experience that drives and runs on electricity. The car should share some interior features with the XEV 9e, including a three-screen dashboard. Other features of the vehicle may include a panoramic sunroof, dual-spoke steering wheel, driving modes, vertically-stacked LEDs, and a horizontal lightbar.

We expect the company to equip the vehicle with the same battery pack (59 kWh and 79 kWh) and motors as the XEV 9e. However, given the higher weight, there’s a chance that the XEV 7e will not offer as much range. Even so, the company could include an all-wheel-drive option to make it more appealing to buyers. More details about the all-electric SUV should surface on the internet in the coming days.
Maruti Suzuki eVitara: Company’s First EV With Bold Looks And Upmarket Features

The first electric vehicle from the biggest seller in India, Maruti Suzuki, should come out in the first quarter of 2025. Dubbed eVitara (or eVX, as the internet seems to be divided on the vehicle’s name), the car will mark the company’s foray into the EV segment. Interestingly, Toyota has already launched the Urban Cruiser EV in the global markets, which is a rebadged version of Maruti’s upcoming EV, giving us several details about the car.
Although the front fascia of the Urban Cruiser EV isn’t like that of the eVX, the side and rear profiles are similar, so buyers can get a good idea of Maruti’s upcoming car. Interestingly, Toyota’s rebadged EV comes in three powertrain options.
The baseline variant ships with a 49 kWh battery (144 PS motor, 189 Nm torque), a 61 kWh battery (174 PS motor, 189 Nm torque), and another 61 kWh battery (184 PS motor, 300 Nm torque). Interestingly, the variant with the most powerful motor and highest torque will offer a four-wheel-drive setup.
While the global variant of the eVX could be unveiled at the start of 2025, it will take months before it actually arrives in India. We expect the Indian release of the vehicle to take place by the end of the calendar year 2025 (as winters are more favorable for EV launches than summers).
Hyundai And Creta Could Release Creta EV and Carens EV

The Korean sister brands are also gearing up to enter the electric vehicle market. While Hyundai has placed its bet on its most popular product in India, the Creta SUV, Kia is looking forward to releasing an electric avatar of its Carens MPV. According to reports, the Creta EV could break cover in January 2025 (at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025), while the Carens EV could come out in June 2025.
Hyundai already has a few electronic vehicles on the roads in the Indian market, and hence, buyers may expect to see some elements being shared. Although the EV will retain a similar silhouette to the ICE version, it could feature some new design elements. Further, it could offer around 450 kilometers of real-world range on a charge. Given the success Hyundai has seen with the Creta ICE, it should make sure that the Creta EV is among the best SUVs launched in 2025.
The same is true for the Carens EV. It will feature the same underpinnings as the ICE MPV but include a battery pack, some design changes, and a couple of additional features in its electronic avatar.

Tata Motors’s Sierra SUV Could Be A Big Launch For The Company

The Indian auto giant has confirmed launching the Sierra SUV in late 2025. With both ICE and all-electric powertrain options, the vehicle will also offer all-wheel-drive on the upper trims. Like the Curvv, the brand will first launch the EV version (based on the new Harrier EV’s Gen 2 EV platform), followed by the vehicle’s ICE version (based on the new ATLAS platform).
The company has already filed patents for the Sierra’s final design. However, before the SUV comes out, Tata Motors also has the Harrier EV’s launch lined up. On the other hand, the Safari EV is also due for launch, but there isn’t much information available about the car.
2025 MG Gloster: A Facelifted Version

Next year, JSW MG Motor will unveil the facelifted version of its SUV, the Gloster. Taking on its rivals like the Toyota Fortuner, the MG Gloster’s updated version will offer a more premium interior than ever. Further, the vehicle will get a new front look, with a split-headlight design and DRLs on the top. The rear profile will also receive updates in the form of new tail lights.
On the inside, the vehicle will feature a larger infotainment screen, along with other refinements that make it feel more classy. Recent spy shots also showed a new center console with large grab rails and a wireless charging pad. Last but not least, the vehicle could offer three differential locks (front, rear, and center).
