Honor 20 series makes global debut: Price, Specifications and India launch date

Amidst the ongoing Huawei-US turmoil, Honor 20 series has launched globally. There are three phones under the Honor 20 umbrella this time around- Honor 20 Pro, Honor 20 and Honor 20 Lite. They are camera-centric phones with premium looks and internals. Honor 20 Pro and the regular version features quad-camera panel and a punch hole display. After a deluge of leaks and rumors, now that they are out, let’s see what each of them has to offer.

Honor 20 Pro peculiarities

With the Pro denomination, its needless to say that this one sports the premium features of the lot. From the get-go, you would see its 6.26-inch Full HD+ display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, that touts a 91.7 percent screen-to-body ratio. The display sports dual-curved edges called as 3D curved glass that extends to the back. The chassis has an aluminum frame. The device flaunts Phantom Blue, Phantom Black colors.

The head-turner, however, is definitely its cameras.

We see from the above image that the primary one is a 48MP Sony IMX 586 sensor with f/1.4 aperture, utilizing 4-in-1 pixel binning mechanism. This main camera is accompanied by a 16MP super wide 117-degree angle f/2.2 aperture sensor, an 8MP telephoto 3x lossless optical zoom sensor with f/2.4 aperture, OIS and 5x hybrid zoom and 30x digital zoom capability. Finally, a 2MP macro lens with 1.75um pixel size and f/2.4 aperture completes the quadrangle panel. Upfront, we get a 32MP (f/2.0) selfie shooter.

The camera is augmented by features such as AI Ultra Clarity Mode, AIS Super Night Mode, 4K video recording. It has received 111 scores in DXOMark testing which is a testament of its imaging prowess.

Moving on, under the hood, it is powered by the company’s in-house Kirin 980 SoC, backed by GPU Turbo 3.0 and Graphene Cooling Sheet technology for games and heavy graphics intensive processes. The phone draws power from a 4000mAh battery that comes with 22.5W Honor Super Charge support that touts to charge 50 percent of the battery in 30 minutes. Other features include Virtual 9.1 Surround Sound technology, and comes with dual microphones, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Honor 20 highlights

Honor 20 which swaps the telephoto sensor of Pro variant with a 2MP Depth Assist sensor that has 1.75um pixel size and f/2.4 aperture size. The primary sensor has an f/1.8 aperture. The battery drops to a 3750mAh size. The memory options also differ. Rest everything remains the same as the Pro variant. So, you could pick this one apart from it’s colors-Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, Icelandic white.

Honor 20 Lite

Honor 20 Lite which was launched back in April in Russia also landed in London. It is steered by Kirin 710 SoC, backed by a smaller 3,400mAh battery with a 10W fast charger. It sticks to a waterdrop notch on a smaller 6.21 display. Though the upfront shooter remains the same, the back features only triple cameras. They are a 24MP (f/1.8) primary sensor, an 8MP (f/2.2) ultrawide secondary sensor, and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth sensor.

It is available in Phantom Blue, Phantom Red, Magic Night Black colors. Other changes include a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, micro-USB port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack a hybrid microSD storage expansion up to 1TB and EMUI 9 skin (Honor 20 Pro and Honor 20 doesn’t have the last three features).

Honor Global launched the new series (Honor 20 Pro and Honor 20) in London, England on May 21. They will soon visit Shanghai, China on May 31 and supposedly on June 11 in India. These phones could be Honor’s player against the OnePlus 7 series and Asus Zenfone 6 launched recently.
