Having brought out a two-step verification process for its beta channels in November last year, Whatsapp today stated that it will be making its two-step authentication process available to all users.

Seemingly, the two-step verification adds an extra layer of security in tandem with the end-to-end encryption from the Open Whisper Systems.

The process isn’t new, with the likes of iOS, Android and Windows users already privy to the same, and is optional (can be toggled on/off from the settings menu).

Now let’s get started as to how you can enable this new function on your smartphone (we had a go at it and its pretty easy).

Whatsapp

To get this feature, you have to get to Whatsapp settings, then you have to head over to Accounts, from where you will be able to turn it on and off as per your need and requirement.

Afterward, you will be asked for a 6-digit password that you may set as you want (should be cryptic enough, methinks).

Whatsapp requires your email ID too, which can also be used to disable the two-step verification process.

It’s worth mentioning that the said feature will work only when you make a change in your phone or SIM card, or decide to reset your Whatsapp or phone altogether. The overall process is easy to step and can be recovered in case you forget your PIN.

As mentioned, the two-step authentication will come pretty handy when it comes to securing your Whatsapp messenger and make it extremely tough for someone to log in to your account and impersonate you.
