Google Pixel Fold could debut in Q4 2021: Report

Google is reportedly working on its first foldable smartphone monikered as Google Pixel Fold. The phone is now said to debut in the fourth quarter of 2021 i.e. between October 1 and December 31. The company is also expected to launch the Pixel 6 Pro in the same period.

The revelation comes from a senior Director at Display Supply Chain Consultants, David Naranjo. According to the analyst, Google will employ LTPO OLED panels developed by Samsung Display. Both the phones Pixel Fold and Pixel 6 Pro will be equipped with displays to offer variable refresh rates.

As per rumours, Google Pixel Fold is in development with the alias name ‘passport’. The company has previously stated that they are working on a blueprint of a foldable smartphone meant for in-house purposes. Now, the speculation of its arrival is making headlines and the smartphone industry is expecting a big change.

The next generation of Google’s foldable mobile device is expected to launch on October 19, and the date is likely to coincide with the unveiling of the Pixel 6 Pro. The Pixel Fold is tipped to sport a 7.6-inch display for its main screen i.e. when unfolded. The company could offer stock Android OS. On the other hand, Pixel 6 Pro is anticipated to be powered by Google’s Tensor SoC

Since among various foldable phones that have been launched by now, only Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 (review) and Galaxy Z Flip 3 have achieved a considerable place on the market shelves. Thence, Google Pixel Fold with proper app customization and Google’s form factor could be a game-changer. 

Thus far, there has been no official confirmation on the Google foldable, and so you are suggested to take the information with a pinch of salt.
