Google keeps working to make connectivity easier and faster. The company keeps adding new features every few weeks so that accessibility becomes more efficient. Following the same path, Google has enabled interoperability of applications like Google Chat, Microsoft Teams, Slack, Zoom Team Chat, and more.

This will be done with the help of the Mio platform which has been designed to combine Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. This partnership will allow Google Workspace customers to remain on Google Chats while messaging users across different platforms in DMs, spaces as well as group chats.

VP of Product Management for Google Workspace said, “Together with Mio, we can extend the reach of Google Chat and empower users to collaborate seamlessly across different platforms.”

Google is offering Google Chat interoperability with Slack and Microsoft Teams and it is offering the same to organizations as well. The only condition is that the organizations should have Google Workspace set along with a Mio license. The official Mio blog post claims that Google is enabling interoperability between Microsoft Teams, Slack, Google Chat, Webex, and Zoom Team Chat apps.

The plans were announced by Google in 2023 when the company claimed it would bring interoperability with Slack and Teams, but that was rolled out to a limited number of users in the beta testing phase. However, now it has been announced by Mio officially and will be available for all users, provided they meet the criteria.

What does this mean for Users?

The interoperability of all these apps will enable cross-platform messaging between the following apps-

  • Google Chat
  • Slack
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Webex
  • Zoom Team Chat

After this is enabled, users will be able to receive messages from one platform to another seamlessly. It will also enable the users to message or tag someone even when they are not on the same platform. It allows the ability to share messages, share files, tag and share emoji reactions across different platforms. There will also be an option to edit and delete messages sent to users on other platforms.

Currently, the feature is only available for Workspace accounts and needs a separate Mio subscription as well for interoperability to work.
