Samsung is gearing up to release the Galaxy S24 series. Like every year, it consists of three models: the vanilla Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Although Smartprix already leaked the first high-quality renders of the phones earlier this year, the Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra have appeared on the popular benchmarking platform Geekbench 6.
Galaxy S24 Plus Geekbench Score
Per the Geekbench listing created on December 1, 2023, the Galaxy S24 Plus carries the model number SM-S926U. The model that underwent the benchmark test ran on Android 14 and had 8GB of RAM. Further, it featured the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, indicating that it was the model that Samsung intends to sell in the United States.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC on the Galaxy S24 Plus appears to have a prime core at 3.30 GHz, three cores at 3.15 GHz, two at 2.96 GHz, and two at 2.27 GHz. However, this also appears to be the general specification of the SD 8 Gen 3 SoC and not a “Snapdragon for Galaxy” variant.
With 8GB of RAM and SD 8 Gen 3 SoC, the Galaxy S24 Plus scores 1,902 points in the single-core and 3,439 points in the multi-core performance test. This is considerably lower than other smartphones that feature the same chipset, including the iQoo 12, which scores significantly higher in single and multi-core tests, and the OnePlus 12.
Galaxy S24 Ultra Geekbench Scores
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (SM-S928B) also underwent the benchmarking test with the same chipset, albiet with 12GB of RAM. It scored 2,177 points in the single-core and 6,720 points in the multi-core Geekbench test. These scores are much more in line with the other smartphones with the chipset, which raises the question of whether Samsung is limiting performance on the Galaxy S24 Plus due to heat management or battery drainage issues.
Nonetheless, the models listed on Geekbench will arrive in the United States. For the rest of the world, Samsung will sell the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus with its in-house Exynos 2400 SoC. The top-tier Galaxy S24 Ultra, however, will stick to the SD 8 Gen 3 SoC. Further, since the company couldn’t launch the first few models with the new chip, they already have many rivals for the S24 series.
Galaxy S24 Series Already Has Rivals
The iQoo 12 and OnePlus 12 are two such examples. Both phones ship with the SD 8 Gen 3 SoC, multi-cam setups with periscope lenses for higher zoom levels and a high refresh rate screen. While the iQoo 12 will arrive in India on December 12, 2023, the OnPlus 12 will launch globally on January 23 or 24, 2024. While the former should be priced at around Rs. 55,000, the latter could cost about Rs. 75,000 in India.
