Foxconn, the contract manufacturer for Apple plans to test the waters by commencing Apple iPhone X and iPhone XS production trails in the Indian subcontinent. This development comes at the backdrop of boiling US-China trade tensions.

The Cupertino giant is already manufacturing its iPhone SE and iPhone 6s in India and with this move it could avoid import duties. If everything goes by the plans, Foxconn could start the production trials at its Chennai plants as soon as next week.

The Foxconn is expected to invest $300 million for the initial iPhone production line and thereafter grow the fund influx as more units would be produced.

According to Bloomberg, iPhone sales are dwindling in India and it holds just 1% of the smartphone shipments in India with around 1.7 million sales last year.
