Xiaomi India has been teasing an upcoming Redmi Series ‘Desh ka Smartphone’ on its social media handles for a couple of weeks and, as anticipated, the phone Xiaomi will launch in India on November 30 is indeed Redmi 5A.

The source code for the “Desh Ka Smartphone” banner on the official Xiaomi website clearly notes that the upcoming phone will be Redmi 5A and Xiaomi won’t be rebranding it as a new product or as part of a new series.

The Redmi 5A was earlier launched in China and the marketing tagline for India is perhaps an allusion to its competitive price for India and the phone being ‘Made in India”.

Redmi 5A vs Redmi 4A: What has changed?

In terms of hardware, the Redmi 5A isn’t very different from the Redmi 4A that launched earlier this year. Both phones are powered by the same Snapdragon 425 mobile platform paired with 2GB/3GB RAM and 16GB/32GB storage, have almost the same design and even the same camera sensor on front and rear.

There are a few changes, though. The Redmi 5A has a slightly smaller battery, wider aperture lens for the selfie camera (f/2.0 vs f/2.2), and it will have a dedicated card slot.

Xiaomi Redmi 5A India Price and Availability

In India, Redmi 5A will retail in two variants 2GB RAM/16GB storage and 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage right from the start. Since not a lot has changed, Xiaomi is expected to keep the price same as Redmi 4A (the OnePlus 5 and 5T equation) i.e., Rs. 5,999 and Rs. 6,999, respectively.
