Demon Slayer has no doubt emerged as one of the most loved animes of all time. While in season one, most of the people got connected with siblings Tanjiro and Nezuko, the next seasons of the anime helped people in getting to know about the powers that these Demon Slayers possess. As of now, the fourth season of the anime is going on, and we can keep calm as it got pretty intense at the beginning itself.

If you are a fan and have been following the Demon Slayer franchise, then you must be familiar with the term Hashira. In simple terms, Hashiras are the Demon Slayers who are different from the regular ones and more powerful due to their unmatched skills and special abilities. There are nine Hashira’s in the Demon Slayer, and all of them possess the capabilities to take on any powerful demon. In this article, we will explain to you the Hashira’s position, their special abilities, nichirin swords, breathing techniques, and what actually makes demon slayers a Hashira.

How can Demon Slayers become Hashira?

Hashiras can be dubbed the strongest pillars of the Demon Slayer Corps, and they all are equal in terms of position. They are captained by the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps. Their duty in the series is to lead the battle against Muzan, who is the demon king. All the Hashiras in Demon Slayer have dexterity with swords and are masters of one-of-a-kind breathing techniques.

They are supposed to accomplish missions assigned by the leader. When they are not on missions, Hashiras are supposed to patrol particular areas and gather information regarding the same, along with protecting the residents from the demons. That said, there are a few requirements of becoming a Hashira that a demon slayer has to accomplish. These requirements are as follows:

First things first, one needs to kill a minimum of fifty regular demons or a member of Twelve Moons, who are the strongest demons of Muzan’s empire.
Apart from that, a Hashira can also assign a successor for themself, who is called Tsuguko. The Hashira will be supposed to train his/her Tsuguko so that they can manage the position whenever the Hashira retires or dies.

Moving further in the article, we have mentioned all the hashers along with their power and placed them rank-wise in the list so that you can get an idea of who can overpower who in the long run and which one of them is going to be the toughest nut to crack by the demons. One more important thing, here in this list, you can encounter a couple of spoilers from the first two seasons of the anime. So, if you are someone who has just started watching the show, stop right there, as we don’t want to spoil it for you.

Demon Slayer Hashiras list

Gyomei Himejima

The Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima is no caps, the strongest Hashira in the entire anime when it comes to swordsmanship and caliber. He is the only Hashira among the whole lot who uses spiked flails and an axe rather than swords to kill demons. Another detail about Gyomei is that he is completely blind and uses his senses and vibrations to defend himself from damage and kill demons. He is going to play a major role in the upcoming season of Demon Slayer, and he will also have a face-off with Kokushibo, who is the upper moon one and the strongest demon alive in the series.

Muichiro Tokito

Muichiro is one of the youngest hashira and has a lot of power that can give a nail-biting competition to any demon. He underwent the rough Hashira training in a period of two months which was close to what Gyomei achieved. Talking about his appearance, he doesn’t have a lot of muscular strength, due to which his retaliation time is less than other fighters. He is pretty calm and composed when it comes to nature, and he uses the Mist breathing technique. In the future, he will play a major role in devouring an upper moon demon, that too, all on his own. Nothing like this has happened in the last 100 years of the Demon Slayer Corps’ history. Not only this, but he will also cause severe damage to Kokushibo too.

Sanemi Shinazugawa

The Demon Slayer Corps has a variety of Hashiras; some are cool, some are calm, some are talkative, some are emotional, and then there is Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa. He is a complete package of madness, and his hunger for fighting makes him stand out from the crowd. He plays a major role in the damage caused on the upper rank one and even termed his battle against the same an exciting one. He will, at the time of his debut in the anime, will eradicate multiple lower rank demons without breaking a sweat. As for Sanemi’s strength, even Kokushibo said that he goes hand in hand with Gyomei in terms of strength. He even took Muzan by surprise when while using a sword style that is completely different from other Hashiras.

Obanai Iguro

Obanai Iguro is partially blind and possesses some injuries around his face, due to which he wears a bandage and doesn’t talk a lot. The Serpent Hashira has limitless skills and powers. In the Infinite Castle Arc, you will see the Serpent Hashira in his full-fledged form and his nichirin sword in full action. He also got into a battle against Nakime, who is the upper Ran four demon. Nonetheless, in the future, he will also have a fight with Muzan and help Tanjiro in the same battle. Obanai also has a snake named Kaburamaru, who is also his partner and helps him understand the next moves of his opponents.

Giyu Tomioka

If you are someone who has at least watched the first season of Demon Slayer, then you must definitely know the no-nonsense Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka. In the first season, he made his debut and overpowered Tanjiro’s crew. The true essence of his power is shown in his fight against the father Spider demon and the lower rank five in order to protect Inosuke and Tanjiro. He also had a fight with the third upper moon Akaza who also asked him to join the demon group after being impressed with his powers.

Kyujuro Rengoku

If someone says that they do not know Kyujuro Rengoku and claim that they are Demon Slayer fans, then you should seriously cut all your ties with them. Kyujuro Rengoku needs no introduction as he is the legendary Flame Hashira who plays a major role in the Mugen Train ARC. The Mugen Train Arc has been one of the most popular ones in the Demon Slayer universe. However, the major disappointment was that he was killed by the upper moon three Akaza in a battle where he tried to give a tough competition. Still, he was able to hold Akaza in a battle until dawn, He would have won the battle, but he lost because he was already exhausted due to the fight with the lower rank demon.

Mitsuri Kanroji

If you have started watching the Demon Slayer Season 4, then you must have already seen a girl with pink hair and green eyes; yes, she is the Love Hashira Mitsurji Kunroji. She is currently the most powerful female Hashira in the Demon Slayer Universe. She possesses a highly compassionate nature towards other human beings and the victims of demon attacks as well. However, her personality changes on a scary level when she is seen fighting with demons in the series. She has zero feelings for the demons and has an ambition to only punish them. She has a sword that is different from what other Hashiras have as her sword has an extra long whip-like sword that needs high muscular strength and flexibility to control.

Tengen Uzui

The Sound Hashira is already proved his mantle in the Entertainment District Arc. He was capable of facing off against both Gyutaro and Daki, who were two upper-rank demons involved in the killing of multiple Hashiras previously in the Demon Slayer Universe. Nonetheless, the Sound Hashira takes a retirement right after winning the fight in the entertainment district arc, so we will not get to see him in the final battle against the demon king Muzan and Upper Moon one Kokushibo.

Shinobu Kocho

Last but not least on the list is Shinobu Kocho, who is the current Insect Hashira in Demon Slayer Corps. She is not a match to other members of the Demon Slayer Corps in terms of strength. However, she is one of the best when it comes to playing the cards in strategy. In addition to that, she is also an expert in poison and medicines. So, in times of battle, the Insect Hashira relies on a needle-like sword that she uses to inject the demons with poison.
