Ahead of the official unveiling on October 17, OPPO has already shared a sneak peek of the animations that will be coming to ColorOS 15. In this showcase, we not only got to see the animations but also a few other changes that are coming to ColorOS 15. We also have a video of ColorOS 15 side by side against iOS 18. So, let’s dive in.

Did ColorOS 15 just beat iOS 18 at animations?

It seems like the most important and highlighting feature of ColorOS 15 is going to be the animations. OPPO is using 2 engines this time—Aurora and Tidal. The Aurora Engine is a key part of the smoothness and fluidity improvements across the system.

The Aurora engine brings Android’s first parallel rendering architecture and also boosts the control response speed by 18% and control stability by 40%. This means you can interrupt with icons, widgets, and folder animations without breaking them.

There’s also a system-level texture and motion effects throughout the UI, with excellent haptic feedback tied to these animations. Together with the Tidal Engine, these dual engines aim to enhance performance by 22% in fluency and smoothness while also increasing battery life by an average of 12 minutes.

The Tidal engine is supposed to greatly improve the sustained FPS when gaming. OPPO says that the Find X8 can maintain an average of 119.4 FPS per hour while also reducing power consumption by 10%. This means that together with the Dimensity 9400 and Tidal Engine, the OPPO Find X8 will be a treat for gamers.

In terms of performance, OPPO is introducing chip cache dynamic allocation technology, which can increase app installation speed by 26% and reduce third-party app loading times by 50%.

Here’s a video posted on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, comparing the animations of iOS 18 and ColorOS 15. If I am not blind, ColorOS 15’s animations are simply superior to iOS 18’s.

Fluid Cloud is Dynamic Island but better

The Fluid Cloud, inspired by the Dynamic Island, allows for multiple apps to be stacked. For instance, you can stack apps like a media player, a timer, and others, and switch between them by sliding your finger on the Fluid Cloud. You can even glance at all of the live activities by tapping on the cloud.

iOS 18 vs ColorOS 15: Spot the Difference Moment

However, there are clear similarities between ColorOS 15 and iOS 18, especially in the control center, which mirrors the media player, brightness slider, and volume slider from Apple’s design.

The notification center and volume controls also resemble iOS 18, as well as the widgets and the spotlight search at the bottom of the screen. The Fluid Cloud, well, resembles the Dynamic Island on iOS 18. We already revealed these changes in our exclusive OxygenOS 15 leak.

It’s clear that ColorOS 15’s design heavily resembles iOS 18’s aesthetic, which raises the question of originality. Despite this, the improvements in performance, smoothness, and animation quality are making ColorOS 15 a major upgrade over ColorOS 14.

Launch Date & First Devices

ColorOS 15 will be officially unveiled on October 17 at the ODC (OPPO Developer Conference) in China. It will first be seen on the OPPO Find X8 series and the OnePlus 13 (OxygenOS globally). realme’s realme UI 6.0 will also be very similar to ColorOS 15 and you can expect that to arrive on the upcoming realme GT 7 series first.
