Canon launches EOS R5 and EOS R6 mirrorless cameras: Details and India Price

Canon has announced EOS R5 and EOS R6 cameras further expanding its mirrorless portfolio. Out of the two, the EOS R5 is Canons pro-level premium mirrorless camera featuring a full-frame CMOS sensor while the EOS R6 lies a notch below with slightly trimmed capabilities.

Canon EOS R5 details

The Canon R5 pro-grade camera has a full-frame 45-megapixel sensor that enables it to deliver uncropped 8K RAW video at 29.97 fps in 4:2:2 10-bit color. As per Canon, it can handle continuous 8K RAW video recording for full 20 minutes at room temperature.

Those who prefer recording videos in UHD resolution, the EOS R5 can handle uncropped 4K DCI at 59.94 fps which gives it edge over Canon’s previous generation EOS R cameras. The R5 supports RAW, H.265 HEVC, and H.264 MP4 video formats.

At the heart of EOS R5, Canon has placed its new DIGIC X image processor which lets it click full-resolution stills at 12fps and 20fps with mechanical shitter and electronic shutters respectively. That’s with the electronic shutter; with the mechanical shutter, the camera can shoot up to 12FPS. It has a native ISO range of 100-51,200.

The EOS R5 includes an electronic viewfinder with 5.76-million dot resolution and 120 fps refresh rate. It also features a 3.2-inch 2.1-million dot vari-angle touchscreen display.

Canon EOS R6 Details

Canon has capped the EOS R6 video recording capabilities at 4K at 60FPS, and 120FPS slow-motion videos at Full HD resolution. It comes with 20.1MP CMOS full-frame sensor taken from Canon’s popular 1D X Mark lol. Canon has added a 3.69 million dots viewfinder which well short of the one in R5 but still seems solid on paper, It also has a 3-inch 1.62million bots touch-sensitive display.

Both new cameras – EOS R5 and the R6 are first in the series to include in-body stabilisation. Canon has also blessed them with dual card slots.

Canon EOS R5 Price, EOS R6 Price and availability

The EOS R5, as evident from details, will retail at a premium price. The EOS R5 body is priced at Rs. 3,39,995 without any lens. Canon has priced the EOS R6 body at Rs. 2,15,995 (without lens). Both of these new mirrorless cameras will be available starting from August at Canon Image Squares and authorized retailers.
