Snapdragon 678: What’s improved?
As aforementioned, SD678’s main improvement over the predecessor (SD675) is its higher CPU clock speed. That is the performance core Kryo 460 (based on Cortex- A76) now can max at 2.2GHz speed. Qualcomm also notes that the Adreno 612 GPU should render better, although how and by how much is unspecified.
Much like its flagship Snapdragon 888, this mid-range chip also vaunts enhancements in real-world use cases like camera features, media consumption, and network connectivity.
On the camera front, you are getting up to 48MP triple camera set up (with “zero” shutter lag) by the back, and 4K30fps videos in the HEVC (H.265) format. Qualcomm has also added its 3rd-gen AI engine to facilitate better portrait and low-light shots.

Other goodies in the mix include download speeds up to 600Mbps (thanks to Snapdragon X12 LTE Modem), Dual SIM Dual VoLTE, VoWiFi, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology.
You could expect phones powered by Snapdragon 678 to see the daylight in 2021.
