The gaming industry has been growing strength to strength in recent times. Over the years new gaming platforms have emerged but hardcore gamers continue to consider the PC as their go-to gaming platform. Today PC gamers have a plethora of games to choose which can deliver ultimate visuals and thrill.
Multiplayer online battle arena video games have been soaring on popularity charts and today it is the most popular gaming category among the PC gamers. Owing to this popularity some battle royale games even earned millions in microtransactions and other means. Well, everything isn’t sunshine and rainbows as in 2018 we witnessed sudden closure of major gaming studios like Telltale games.
Anyhow, bygones are bygones. And we game-nerds still had plenty of games to play. So, without any further ado, let’s dive straight into the list of most popular PC games to try in 2019.
1. Call Of Duty: Black OPs 4
This one is touted as and agreed by the gamers to be the best COD in a long time – maybe since Modern Warfare 2 in terms of pure gameplay fun. While the Specialist mode is gimmicky, the maps seem smaller than the usual and the exclusion of Campaign mode could off put some fans of the series. But things like the Multiplayer option, Zombies and Blackout modes make it a thrilling and tactical shooting game.
2. Shadow of The Tomb Raider
You play as Lara Croft exploring the ruins and tombs across various hidden cities solving various puzzles and combating enemies of a shady organization called Trinity. The adventure is a rich experience.
The world showcased in Shadow of The Tomb Raider game is vibrant and captivating. You’ll find the jungle alive, beautiful and dangerous at the same time. Even the sound and stillness of silence within caves felt real and eerie. On the downside, the story feels little short and rushed. Having said that, the Shadow of The Tomb Raider is a fitting ending to the trilogy.
3. Forza Horizon 4
Never thought that I would find a better racing game than the NFS series. But man, could I be any more wrong. The Forza Horizon 4 is a fresh take on the racing experience and the graphics are fantastic. In the Forza Horizon 4, you drive in the open world environment based on a fictional representation of the United Kingdom. What we dig the most is the changing weather and climate, which makes the experience more real and unique.
As you put on the game, at some point, it prompts you for review and though it felt weird, still the game is worthy of five stars. Though, It as a fun repeatability factor to it, long-term players find it has succumbed to fatigue. But the same opinion doesn’t reflect on the major positive reception it has received. You’re in for a treat as it exhibits a stunning visual graphics, lit as fire audio design, a huge collection of cars, and a gratifying reward system.
4. Battlefield 5
The sixteenth installment from the renowned Battlefield franchise garnered heavy criticism on its trailer launch. However, post its launch it got great reviews from both fans and critics. The multiplayer mode is better than Battlefield 1. The gameplay is awesome as expected from the franchise and the developer EA Dice. However, this appreciation is overshadowed by the missing content (Maps and DLCs). Though the inclusion of female characters is welcome, what’s frustrating is the lack of proper character depth and connect to the game plot.
To make things worse, there are lots of historical inaccuracy in the game. Despite all these issues the Battlefield 5 is a worthy enough game to feature in this list.
5. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
The Assassin’s Creed Odyssey a third person perspective game, where it lets you play as doll the character of Alexios (male character) or Kassandra (female character) in an epic adventure journey through the historical Greek cities of Athens and Sparta. We love the depth and texture of the characters and how the side characters are also woven into the grand story. The open world is mesmerizing. The combat is exhilarating. Each of your choices and decisions leads to a new facet of the story arcs. So, saddle up my fellow gamer, the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a long but must-play game.
Nothing less expected out of the Assassins Creed franchise as it has crafted an awe-inspiring role-playing game.
6. Far Cry 5
This installment builds on the Far Cry franchise’s wilderness environment and lawless lands where the player has to survive, struggle and fight against men, animal and even supernatural or scientific elements. In the Far Cry 5, the game takes place in Hope County, a fictional Montana region of the United States. The main villain goes by the name Joseph Seed. Though his personality is of a charismatic leader. But, he is not interesting as Vaas Montenegro of Far Cry 3 fame.
The story revolves around the Project at Eden’s Gate, a doomsday cult that rules the land under the guise of Seed. One small gripe I have with the game is hyper-vigilant AI which gets spooked easily and they all attack you like a bee swarm. The vivid color palette of the jungle, the sound of the explosions, the stealth movements, everything felt so natural and gripping.
7. Hitman 2
Simply put, you get what you expect out of a Hitman game. You’re on a mission to hunt the mysterious “Shadow Client” and destruct his military force. Unlike other games, in the Hitman 2, you’re not a part of an extravagant or futuristic world. Instead, you indulge in covert missions within the neighborhoods of a few famous cities across the globe. Furthermore, the great maps, solid mechanics of a stealth game, and the cool quotient of playing as an assassin adds up to the addictive and fun experience.
The exploration of the underwater open world is an experience unlike any other. The Subnautica gameplay happens in a beautiful visual world coupled with a good plot and mechanics leads to an immersive and memorable game. It is one of a kind game wherein you wish to explore more rather than completing it.
The sublime scenery and the soothing sounds of the abyss that is ocean make it all more immersive. However, beware of the sea monsters as this is a survival game at its core. But you could hear their wide roars from the distant sounds.
In one word, its a masterpiece. Don’t go for the graphics. Its intentionally a low-detailed older graphics blend with a beautiful story and soundtrack accompanying it. This Celeste game has garnered all praise and positive reviews for its well-crafted gameplay. The music itself did the trick for us. So, go play this gem of a game. Graphics shouldn’t be the only deciding factor for a good or bad game.
10. Playerunknown’s battlegrounds (PUBG)
Are you looking for raw adrenaline rush and joy out of a battle royale? Well if yes, then you should try Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds aka PUBG. The gameplay involves 100 players who are airdropped on an island for intensive battle royal play. The developed by Tencent games, the game has a short learning curve and at times it tests your patience. Last year, it augmented its active player base by millions and has been rightfully awarded as the Game of the Year 2018.
This Multiplayer Online Battle Arena Video Game from Epic Games set the world on fire since its launch on 25 July 2017. The Fortnite gameplay involves the player being dropped out of a flying party bus onto a large and colorful landscape. The players have to then craft walls, stairs, and floors anywhere on the map and strategically defend themselves and attack their opponents.
Don’t be fooled by the vibrant colors and visual charm of this game as from the getgo it gets chaotic and a tough task to survive and win the battle royale in a constantly shrinking map. Though the inventory system comprises fewer slots, updated arsenal from Epic games and the fast-paced arcade playstyle on a relatively smaller map offers an immersive experience each time.
12. Just Cause 4
If you’re the kind of player who loves flying, running mayhem and destroying things in a game. Then Just Cause 4 should be right up your alley. The storyline might feel flat, but you get refreshed visuals and creative game play design.
Rico, the lead character of the game has various gadgets like grapple gun, wingsuit and parachute, and an insane amount of adrenaline rush. If you ignore the occasional glitches, unfinished cutscenes, and repetitive mission pattern, then you will surely enjoy this game.
