Amidst the shifting dynamics of the transportation sector, Bajaj Auto’s CEO, Rajiv Bajaj, has announced a groundbreaking development: the world’s first CNG motorcycle. Originally slated for release in 2025, the company has expedited its plans, bringing forward the launch to the next quarter of this year.

Bajaj CNG Powered Motorcycle

Mr. Bajaj also emphasized that the CNG-powered motorcycle aims to replicate the success achieved by Hero Honda in the commuter segment, notably referencing the transformative impact of the CD100 motorcycle on India’s commuting landscape. Additionally, he highlighted the potential for the CNG-powered motorcycle to significantly reduce operating and fuel expenses, estimating savings of 50-65 percent for riders.

While details about the forthcoming motorcycle remain undisclosed, Mr. Bajaj shed light on its environmental performance. The CNG prototype showcased significantly lower emissions compared to traditional internal combustion vehicles, boasting a 50 percent reduction in CO2, 75 percent in carbon monoxide, and nearly 90 percent in non-methane hydrocarbons.

This indicates a promising shift towards a more efficient and cleaner combustion cycle. However, the critical aspect to monitor will be Bajaj’s approach to packaging the motorcycle, including CNG storage and design considerations, alongside the incorporation of safety management systems to ensure its reliability and safety for daily use.

During the announcement, Mr. Bajaj unveiled plans to introduce the ‘biggest Pulsar ever’ by the financial year 2025, signaling a significant expansion of the Pulsar family. Emphasizing a strategic shift away from developing premium offerings, he highlighted the company’s focus on finely segmenting brands like Pulsar. Additionally, he reaffirmed Bajaj Auto’s commitment to the 125cc plus segment, with a pledge to introduce new models almost every fortnight to maintain market presence and competitiveness.
