The Indian automotive industry are preparing for the launching events of at least eight cars in the following August. With the new arrivals, it ranges from the three entirely new coupe-styled SUVs, a new 5-door model based on one of the existing models and both volume and luxury segments. Here’s a breakdown of the vehicles that are expected to go on sale in the Indian automobile market in the month of August 2024.
Nissan X-Trail
The exact sequence has not been released but the first model that will be released is the Nissan X-Trail that will be out by August 1. Over the previous year, Nissan India had opened the booking for this model with delivery scheduled for the same month. The X-Trail will be Nissan India’s second model after just a year of operations selling only the Magnite subcompact SUV.
The X-Trail comes with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with mild hybrid technology that delivers 160 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, and CVT type transmission system. The car to be positioned in the segment Rs 40-45 lakh (ex-showroom) and will rival Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and MG Gloster.
Citroen Basalt
In second place is the Citroen Basalt coupe-SUV which will be launched in the international market on 2 August, while details on the price of this model are expected to be released shortly after. Comparing it with the C3 Aircross SUV, the Basalt is expected to have a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and comes with a choice of manual or automatic gearbox. This model will be in the highly competitive compact SUV market and will directly compete with the Tata Curvv when launched. The Basalt, however, is set to be aimed at a lower price point compared to standard offerings in the segment.
Tata Curvv and the Curvv EV
Tata Curvv
The Curvv coupe-SUV will be showcased to the market for the first time by Tata Motors on August 7. This model will be launch in India as a flagship model for Tata and it will be falling under the compact SUV category. Available engine choices may range from a 1.2-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol with another 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. With the launch of the Curvv, Renault will take on the Citroen Basalt in the compact SUV market largely occupied by the Hyundai Creta. The Curvv will slot in between the Nexon and the Harrier models in the line-up of Tata Motors.
Tata Curvv EV
While the Curvv ICE will be on display, Tata intends to reveal the Curvv EV on August 7. This new model will be Tata’s second car built on the ‘Acti.ev’ platform after the Punch EV. It is also anticipated that the new model would utilize an approximate battery power of 50-60 kWh which would ensure it has a range in excess of 500 kilometers. It is believed that the Curvv EV will come in two variants: single motor and dual motor. It will be Tata’s most costlier electric vehicle until the launch of the Harrier EV.
Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet and AMG GLC 43 Coupe
Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet
The Mercedes Benz CLE Cabriolet is due to be released in India on August 8. This model succeeded C-class and E-class cabriolets on the international market when it was introduced. This model is sold in different markets of the world with a choice of four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines. Though, the question arises as to which engines would the manufacturers be offering in the India-bound model. Its likely to be priced over Rs 1 crore (ex showroom) when it finally hits the Indian market in CLE Cabriolet avatar.
Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43 Coupe
The third launch on the 8th of August is the Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43 Coupe that comes with a powerful appearance. This model was released last September and it is driven by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine generating 415 bhp and 500 Nm; with another 12.8 bhp extra to its mild hybrid system. It need 4 seconds to accelerate from 0 kmph to 100 kmph. It takes 7 seconds to reach its top speed, which is 250 kmph. The starter models are anticipated to begin from above Rs 1 crore.
Lamborghini Urus SE
Lamborghini will launch the Urus SE plug-in hybrid, also known as PHEV, in the Indian market on 9th August, 2024. The Urus SE is a high-performance variant of Lamborghini’s SUV and has a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor, which generates 789bhp and 950Nm of torque. The Urus SE has a zero-emission range of 60 km and can achieve a 0-100 kmph in 3.4 seconds. This particular model will be priced higher than the Urus that is already on the market right now.
Mahindra Thar Roxx
Rounding out the list is the long awaited five door Thar – formally known as the Thar Roxx. Following the appearance of several test models, Mahindra revealed the first teaser and later officially announced the name of the new SUV. According to some expectations, the Thar Roxx is likely to be driven by the 2.0-litre diesel engine from the Scorpio-N, making 174bhp. This new model will also be available with a 0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine which offers 201 bhp. Transmission choices will be 6-speed manual as well as automatic while the customer has an option to choose between the two engines. While both, four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive layouts will be present, the estimated price for the vehicle falls between Rs 15-20 lakh (ex-showroom).
