Apple, the technology powerhouse headquartered in Cupertino, is making significant strides in enhancing its smart home product range in 2025. Recent reports indicate that the company plans to introduce a smart doorbell camera equipped with Face ID technology for door unlocking. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, this innovative smart doorbell camera is expected to debut in late 2025, potentially transforming the landscape of home security devices.

Gurman asserts that the smart doorbell camera will operate in a manner akin to Face ID on iPhones, automatically unlocking the door upon recognizing you or other household members. Like other Apple products, this smart doorbell camera is anticipated to utilize the Secure Enclave chip, which manages and safeguards biometric information separately from the primary hardware, thereby enhancing privacy.

The upcoming smart doorbell camera is expected to work seamlessly with current third-party HomeKit smart locks, providing Apple users with greater flexibility within the ecosystem. Alternatively, Apple may collaborate with a smart lock manufacturer to create an integrated system for the launch. This smart doorbell camera will utilize Apple’s proprietary ‘Proxima’ chip, which combines WiFi and Bluetooth technology to enhance the performance of next-generation HomePod Mini and Apple TV devices.

The smart doorbell camera is not an isolated innovation; it is part of Apple’s broader initiative to enhance its smart home ecosystem under the banner of Apple Intelligence. This Face ID-enabled smart doorbell camera is designed to rival Amazon’s Ring, but it carries inherent risks if it fails to operate correctly. Critics argue that any malfunction or vulnerability within the ecosystem could pose serious threats, such as unauthorized entry into homes. Nevertheless, Apple is committed to prioritizing user safety, a principle it upholds across all its products.

The doorbell camera is currently in the initial phases of development, making its final release date unclear. Should it prove successful, this device has the potential to enhance convenience and security for Apple users, while integrating smoothly with Apple’s wider ecosystem.

Apple is developing various cutting-edge smart home products in addition to its smart doorbell camera. Among these innovations is a new smart home hub featuring a 6-inch display designed for device management, FaceTime calls, and video playback.

The company is also creating a security camera to enhance the functionality of the hub, as well as a smart display similar to an iPad that can be magnetically mounted on walls or speakers. These advancements suggest that 2025 will be an exciting year for Apple in the realm of smart home technology.
