Apple iPhone 7 Is Now Being Assembled In India

Like all major technology companies, Apple too is eying the Indian market for the next phase of growth. The Cupertino-based tech giant hasn’t managed to make significant inroads, thus far. The Government of India denies special tax incentives to Apple, and amidst the steep increase in prices of iPhones and its new India strategy in 2018, sales took a hit.

Why is India important to Apple?

With US-China trade tensions in the backdrop, even more important than iPhone sales to Apple should be India’s potential to be the next smartphone manufacturing hub. Stepping up ‘Make in India’ efforts, Apple has started assembling iPhone 7 in India starting March 7.

Now, the Apple iPhone 7 was all the rage, but that was around 2 years ago (Which is equivalent to ages in tech years). A lot has changed for iPhones since then, but with the iPhones being largely inaccessible to the masses, the previous generation iPhones do well in India.

Apple iPhone 7 is being assembled by Taiwanese contract manufacturer Wistron in Bengaluru, the same plant where iPhone SE and iPhone 6 are assembled as well.

Will iPhone 7 Price drop in India?

Currently, the Apple iPhone 7 price in India starts at 39,990 for the 3GB 32GB storage variant and goes up to 49,900 for the 128GB storage model. It’s unlikely that Apple would reduce prices after it starts assembling iPhone 7 in India. According to reports, Apple will use the additional margin to boost its marketing and sales in the country.
