Android Auto is getting a lot of new apps and functionality through an OTA update by Google. As users get the update, they can access the new Weather Channel, Zoom, and Prime Video apps right on their infotainment console in their car. Some regions are also getting digital car key support in the United States, Canada, and Korea for select models by Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis.

New Android Auto Apps

The latest Android Auto update by Google consists of the Weather Channel, one of the most popular weather services apps on the Google Play Store, where it has over 100 million downloads. Besides showing the regular weather forecasts, the app warns users about expected weather changes like storms and the weather conditions ahead in the journey. Moreover, the Weather Channel could benefit Android Auto users, especially those who like to travel with their car.

Next, Android Auto is getting the Zoom and WebEx by Cisco apps for attending audio-only calls while driving. Last but not least, Google is also adding another video streaming app to Android Auto’s arsenal, Prime Video by Amazon. Like Tesla, Android Auto users can now stream web shows and other content on Prime Video when their car is parked. More than regular cars, this feature will help the electronic car manufacturers who provide Android Auto to their customers.

Another feature rolling out as a part of the update is the digital car key, which enables users to unlock/lock and start their car using their smartphone. However, one must have compatible Google or Samsung devices like the Pixel 7 Pro or the Galaxy S23 to use the feature. Like always, the Android Auto update should gradually be available to all users.
