Google is gearing up for the release of Android 14 with a fresh look for the Android brand, which hasn’t seen an update since 2019. The makeover includes a modernized logo and a revamped Android mascot known as Bugdroid, now with a snazzy 3D appearance. Alongside these cosmetic changes, Google is introducing several new features for its apps and Android devices.

The updated Android branding aims to mirror Android’s core values of openness, continuous improvement, and inclusivity. The Android logo has been given a curvier design, aligning it more closely with Google’s signature style. The beloved green Android robot mascot gets a 3D makeover with vibrant colors, including a playful rainbow finish, accessorized with a headband and hat, and showcasing new animations.

In addition to the rebranding, Google has announced a quarterly Android feature drop with some exciting enhancements. Here are all the key Android features that Google silently announced:

Assistant At a Glance Widget

This widget for your home screen leverages machine learning algorithms to provide quick, relevant information such as local weather, travel updates, and event reminders.

Image Q&A on Google’s Lookout App

This feature uses AI to generate detailed image descriptions, making visual content more accessible for people with vision impairments. Users can even ask follow-up questions for more information. The Lookout app is also expanding to support 11 more languages.

Google Wallet Pass Import

Google Wallet now allows you to digitize and store passes with barcodes or QR codes, such as gym memberships or library cards, making them accessible when you need them most.

Android Auto Support for Webex and Zoom

Android Auto now supports audio conference calls on Webex and Zoom, enabling you to join meetings and manage schedules on your car display. You can also mute your mic and end calls directly through Android Auto, promoting safer driving practices.

Google Assistant Sleep Tracking

You can now incorporate sleep-tracking data from Fitbit or Google Fit into your Google Assistant Routines. By saying, “Hey Google, good morning,” you’ll receive a summary of your sleep stats along with your morning news.

These exciting features are rolling out immediately and can be accessed through app updates in the Google Play Store, eliminating the need for system-wide updates. Stay tuned for these enhancements as they arrive to enhance your Android experience.
