Amazon Kindle Lite App Sheds Beta Tag: Features and Introductory Offers

1

Google isn’t the only one making resource-friendly apps for Android users in developing nations like India. Amazon today launched Kindle Lite App that’s less than 2MB in size and provides all basic Kindle e-reader features. (हिंदी में पढ़े)

The app has been listed on Play store as an open beta since November 2017 but has now shed the Beta tag.

“As part of our continued focus on India, we are always working to improve the reading experience for our customers. Apps constantly compete for space on a mobile phone and Kindle Lite solves this problem for our readers,” said Rajiv Mehta, Country Manager, Kindle, in a press statement. “Kindle Lite is less than 2MB and built to provide a great reading experience even on 2G/3G networks.”

Kindle Lite vs Kindle App: Whats Different?

The Kindle Lite app has been designed to work well with patchy and low-speed internet connections. Compared to full-fledged Kindle app, the Lite version won’t have features like Highlights, X-Ray, Flashcards, Word Runner, and WordWise. We won’t call these omissions superfluous, but you can surely manage without them if you are running the app on a less resourceful or entry-grade Android phone.

Mandatory basics including the ability to buy new ebooks, zoom into images, night-mode for reading, font-size adjustments, etc. have made the cut.

The Kindle Lite app also lets you monitor the data consumed over cellular or WiFi network.

We noticed that the app isn’t syncing the last three books that we added to our library. Other than that, the experience seems fine (based on preliminary testing). The interface is quite simple and easy to navigate.

Kindle Lite Amazon Pay Offer

As an introductory offer, Amazon also offers 80-percent cash back for the first book purchased using the app in the first month of launch. You will have to pay using Amazon Pay to avail the discount.
