Amazfit has launched its new smartwatch Amazfit BIP 5 in India recently. It is a budget wearable that is loaded with specs like long battery life, a built-in microphone, new health trackers, 120+ sports modes, tons of watch faces, and more. There are slight misses as well like an LCD display instead of an AMOLED panel. In India, the smartwatch is available for Rs. 7,499 on Amazon but the Amazfit BIP 5 does feel slightly pricy when compared to other smartwatches available in the market.

Although it has some impressive features like a long battery life and Amazfit’s own OS, whether are these worth it remains the question. Amazfit has launched Amazfit BIP 5 in Soft Black, Cream White, and Pastel Pink shades. We were loaned the black variant and we used it for a few days. Amazfit BIP 5 Smartwatch Price

Amazfit BIP 5 is priced at Rs. 7499.

Amazfit BIP 5 Review: Design

Amazfit BIP 5 has a plastic unibody design which is decent considering the price point. At the front is a 1.91-inch display which is a 2.5D curved panel making it strong and beautiful. The smartwatch doesn’t catch smudges or fingerprints easily and is IP68-rated for protection against water. One can use this smartwatch in the rain or pool without worry. At the back are the heart rate and SpO2 sensors along with a magnetic charging dock.

The right side has a button used to turn the screen on, go back to any app, or quickly launch something. If you turn the lock on from the settings menu, you can unlock it by pressing and holding this button. Also during workouts, if you have to pause it, then this button has to be used. The other side has a speaker grille.

The strap of the smartwatch is easily changeable. We were loaned the black variant but other shades can be purchased via Amazon. These straps are 22mm in width and good in quality. You can easily wear it in hand for long durations without feeling uncomfortable.

All-in-all, the Amazfit BIP 5 has a good build quality and is comfortable to wear.

Amazfit BIP 5 Review: Display

Amazfit BIP 5 comes with a 1.91-inch display which looks impressive, especially at this price point. The touch of the watch works fast and is not an AMOLED panel, but an LCD panel which is underwhelming at a price of Rs. 7499. If you want to buy a smartwatch with an LCD display then there are quite a few good options for Rs. 5000. The good part is that the LCD display of this smartwatch is slightly better than other smartwatches.

The brightness level of the display is good so it can comfortably be used in outdoor settings for checking notifications and doing more. The Amazfit BIP 5 comes with loads of watch faces. Particularly impressive is the portrait watch face in which you can set any personal photo as the watch face. Including this one, there are 70+ watch faces which you can change as per preference using the Zepp Application.

This Amazfit watch doesn’t have an Always On Display like a Galaxy Watch, so you will have to press the button to switch the screen on and then take any action.

Overall, the display is decent but it being an LCD panel makes you feel that the smartwatch is pricey. However, there are other features that make this LCD panel smartwatch slightly better than its existing competition.

Amazfit BIP 5 Review: Performance

Amazfit BIP 5 smartwatch runs Zepp OS 2.0 which comes with loads of features and options for customizations. Mostly, budget smartwatches don’t have very good software but this isn’t an issue with Amazfit watches. For connectivity, there is Bluetooth 5.2 which makes it compatible with Android 7.0 and above and iOS 14 and above. To utilize all the features of this watch, you will need to have Zepp App (Amazfit’s own app) on your smartphone.

Talking about gestures on this one, swiping from top to bottom displays quick settings that include battery, DND, Sleep, Calendar, Volume, Screen on time, brightness adjustment, settings, theatre mode, and Find My Phone options. As soon as the screen turns on after pressing the button, you can see PAI, Heart Rate, Blood Oxygen, workout, stress, activity, sleep, cycle tracking, and more. Swiping from left to right displays Alexa, music control, and more.

With this smartwatch, you can monitor blood oxygen levels, heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, women’s menstrual cycle, and more. Bluetooth calling and built-in GPS also come in handy.

Now let’s talk about the accuracy of these measurements. The best part is that the watch comes with built-in GPS so whether you exercise outdoors or go around anywhere, you can keep track of it. The step counter is also quite accurate and gives decent results. The sleep tracking feature does its job well and provides data about deep and light sleep accurately.

The SpO2 monitor as well as the heart rate monitor readings are almost accurate. Although this is a budget smartwatch one can’t expect Apple or Galaxy watch-like readings, but considering the budget they are acceptable.

Talking about calling, there is a dedicated app for calling in the watch. You will have to pair the smartwatch to your smartphone from Bluetooth settings and then you will get an Amazfit option to pair it again. In addition to this, there is a Zepp App with a Bluetooth Calling option, enabling it will switch on calling. I tried calling and the experience wasn’t satisfactory. The speaker of the watch doesn’t allow voices to be heard clearly and if you are outdoors, then it becomes even more difficult.

Amazfit BIP 5 Review: Battery Life and Charging

Amazfit BIP 5 packs a 300mAh battery. When we unboxed the smartwatch, it had 0% battery, and on plugging it for charging, the watch charged from 0 to 100% in 2 hours. Although in today’s fast-paced world, the charging time feels long but the battery backup resolves all the complaints. After charging it once, the smartwatch worked for around 6 days continuously. However, if you use Bluetooth calling and set the screen on time to 5 or 10 minutes, the battery lasts for 2 days only.

Since Bluetooth calling is not very impressive, we didn’t use this feature much. Our usage included step tracking while daily walking, sleep monitoring, activity tracking, and more with very little calling. With this usage, the smartwatch lasted for 1 week. For us, the battery backup was quite decent and we can clearly say that in this price range, Amazfit BIP 5 has a very good battery life.

Review Verdict: Should you buy Amazfit BIP 5?

Amazfit BIP 5 Smartwatch is available for Rs. 7499. At this price, the watch comes with top-notch features and strong build quality. Although there are slight niggles like difficulty in tying the strap, absence of AMOLED display, underwhelming Bluetooth calling experience, and more. If Amazfit had given an AMOLED panel and better Bluetooth calling, then it would have been the best deal, but the LCD display also works fine and the trackers are also accurate. Other than that, Amazfit BIP 5 comes with built-in GPS as well which is rare at this price point. Battery life can be the biggest reason for buying this smartwatch.

If you want to go beyond this budget, you can get better smartwatches for Rs. 10,000 which will come with AMOLED screens like Galaxy Watch 4, Amazfit GTS 2, and more.
