Adani Data Networks, a unit of Adani Group has acquired a unified license from the Department of Telecommunications in 6 circles in India. These 6 circles are- Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Mumbai.

Adani participated in the 5G Spectrum auctions wherein it bought a 400MHz spectrum in the 26GHz band for 212 cores. The company has 100MHz of 5G spectrum each in Gujarat and Mumbai and 50MHz each in Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Adani was earlier issued a letter of intent for a unified license and now it has become eligible to carry out long-distance calls on its network and offer internet services as well. The license would also help the company with its data center business where data needs to be transferred within the country as well as outside. If this license would not have been issued, then Adani would have had to use the services of telecom operators to transfer data for which it has to pay carriage charges.

Now, with the availability of the license, the company can provide all kinds of services itself and compete with telecom giants like Jio and Airtel in the future. However, for now, the company has clarified that it does not intend to offer retail telecom services and has bought the 5G spectrum for setting up its private 5G network.

“We are participating in the 5G spectrum auction to provide private network solutions along with enhanced cyber security in the airport, ports, and logistics, power generation, transmission, distribution, and various manufacturing operations,” Adani spokesperson said.

Although for now, Adani has no plans to offer telecom services in the country, experts believe that going forward if the company decides to change its plans, then no one can stop them from offering consumer mobility services. So, in the future, if you see Adani competing with the likes of Airtel and Jio, then don’t be surprised as they have both the means and the permissions to do so.
