Motorola Edge 50 Pro vs iQOO Neo 9 Pro: Display

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro has a 6.7-inch 144 Hz OLED screen with support for HDR10+ and a peak brightness of 2000 nits. Corning Gorilla Glass protects the display. It is important to note that the Motorola Edge 50 Pro’s display is curved on the sides.

On the other hand, the iQOO Neo 9 Pro has a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED that also refreshes at 144 Hz and supports HDR10+. The display can reach a brightness of 1400 nits in High Brightness Mode and 3000 nits in peak brightness mode.

LTPO on the iQOO Neo 9 Pro’s display is a clear advantage since it can switch between multiple refresh rates to conserve battery.

Overall, both displays are excellent and the choice depends on the kind of display you want. If you prefer curved displays, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro should be your pick, but if you like flat displays, then the iQOO Neo 9 Pro is the way to go.

Verdict: The iQOO Neo 9 Pro takes the win because of higher brightness and LTPO tech.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro vs iQOO Neo 9 Pro: Performance

Let’s dive into the performance aspect. The iQOO Neo 9 has a clear and significant advantage when it comes to performance. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which is Qualcomm’s 2023 flagship chipset. The 8 Gen 2 chip is complemented by 8 GB or 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

moto edge 50 Pro - 1

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro settles for the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip that we’ve seen on mid-range smartphones like the OnePlus Nord CE4 and the Vivo V30. Although the chipset isn’t as powerful as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, it definitely is capable of handling all your day-to-day tasks without breaking a sweat.

As for the RAM and storage, the Edge 50 Pro comes with up to 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The iQOO Neo 9 Pro, with significantly faster RAM and storage, will be a more suitable choice for gamers as well as users who want to use their phones for an extended period.

Verdict: iQOO Neo 9 Pro takes the win with a better chipset, faster RAM, and faster storage.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro vs iQOO Neo 9 Pro: Cameras

Coming to the cameras, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro has a 50 MP main (OIS) + 10 MP 3X telephoto (OIS) + 13 MP ultra-wide with 120˚ FOV camera setup on the rear and a 50 MP front camera with AF for taking selfies.

The iQOO Neo 9 Pro has a 50 MP primary lens with OIS + 8 MP ultra-wide with 119˚ FOV. There’s a 16 MP f/2.5 front camera for selfies.

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro has a larger primary sensor (1.1/3” vs 1/1.56”), a better ultra-wide lens, and even a 3x telephoto lens that the iQOO Neo 9 Pro lacks. Unlike the iQOO Neo 9 Pro, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro can record 4K @ 30 FPS video on all cameras. The selfie camera on the Edge 50 Pro is also better since it has autofocus.

Although the hardware is better on the Edge 50 Pro, software optimization is questionable. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s ISP is indeed superior to the one on the 7 Gen 3. Also, iQOO is known for its excellent camera performance, even with standard hardware.

Verdict: Motorola Edge 50 Pro takes the win due to the significantly better hardware.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro vs iQOO Neo 9 Pro: Battery & Charging

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro has a 4500 mAh battery and supports up to 125W fast charging. However, the 125W charger is bundled only with the top variant, while the base variant bundles a 68W charger.

On top of the already fast 125W wired charging, the Edge 50 Pro also features 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging for charging other devices. According to Motorola, the device can be fully charged in just 18 minutes using the 125W charger.

In contrast, the iQOO Neo 9 Pro packs a larger 5160 mAh battery that supports 120W fast charging using the included charger, but it lacks support for wireless charging.

iQoo Neo 9 Pro 120W fast charging

It’s important to mention that while the Edge 50 Pro supports 50W wireless charging, there are currently no wireless chargers available for purchase that can take full advantage of this speed.

Verdict: The iQOO Neo 9 Pro takes the win for the larger battery.

The software on Motorola is cleaner and more refined; however, the update situation could be better, especially in terms of the frequency and timeliness of updates. The iQOO Neo 9 Pro, on the other hand, should deliver timely updates, given the company’s track record.

Verdict: iQOO Neo 9 Pro takes the win because of timely and reliable updates.

Which One Should You Buy?

If you prioritize stock Android, camera versatility, and faster charging speeds, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro is the ideal choice. On the other hand, if you value timely updates, a better display, a larger battery, a flat display, and, most importantly, better performance, the iQOO Neo 9 Pro would be the better option.

Ultimately, your decision should be based on your specific needs and preferences. Do note that the base 256 GB variant of the Motorola Edge 50 Pro is priced Rs 5,000 lower than the iQOO Neo 9 Pro with the same configuration. Anyway, what’s your pick among the two?
