Apple’s highly anticipated Let Loose event, scheduled for May 7th, 2024, is expected to unveil a never-before-unveiled addition to its iPad lineup. Recent rumors indicate that the new M4 chip will power the upcoming iPad Pro models featuring OLED displays, making them the first to feature the chip.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says that there is a “high possibility” that the upcoming iPad Pro models will feature the Apple M4 chip and skip the Apple M3 chip altogether. In the past, Apple introduced its new M-series chips on a MacBook first, so the debut of the M4 chip on the iPad Pro would be quite interesting to witness.
Suppose Mark Gurman’s “high possibility” leak is accurate. In that case, I can speculate that Apple will use the Apple M4 chip on the iPad Pro and the Apple M3 chip on the iPad Air, which is also rumored to debut at the same event.
The event’s highlight is expected to be the introduction of the M4 chip, which is said to have a more powerful NPU for advanced AI features. This aligns with Apple’s broader focus on AI, as the upcoming WWDC 2024 event is rumored to be about AI features.
While we don’t have any solid information on the M4 chip, we can expect faster CPU and GPU performance, improved energy efficiency, and, most importantly, a significantly improved NPU for AI features.
The new iPad Pro models are rumored to come in 11.1″ and 13″ sizes, featuring thinner bezels, a landscape camera setup, a revamped Magic Keyboard, and a new Apple Pencil. Additionally, these models are expected to feature a thinner body and add support for MagSafe charging.

In addition to the iPad Pro models, the event is also expected to unveil the new iPad Air in two sizes, 10.9″ and 12.9″. Contrary to earlier rumors of a mini-LED display, the iPad Air models are now rumored to feature the same LCD display with a 60 Hz refresh rate.
While these leaks paint an exciting picture of what’s to come, you should take these with a pinch of salt. As such, it’s best to mark our calendars and wait for the event to see what Apple has in store for us.
