HTC U Ultra Specifications Review, Features and Price

Launched alongside the HTC U Play, the U Ultra is a part of the company's latest flagship U series of smartphones. This is the first HTC phone with a proprietary AI assistant, which it calls the Sense Companion.

Another standout feature of the phone is its all glass design, which HTC has named Liquid Surface. The coating makes U Ultra look as if it is made out of a liquid itself. As is the rising trend, the earphone jack of the phone has been done away with.

The U Ultra has a 5.7-inch QHD display along with a 2-inch additional screen on the top which displays contacts, app shortcuts, event notifications and more and runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat. Powered by a Snapdragon 821 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM, the phone comes in two storage variables.

Furthermore, the phone seems to have taken cue from the HTC 10 and features a similar 12MP UltraPixel dual camera setup at the back with f/1.8 aperture. On the front, it has a mammoth 16MP camera that can also click 4MP UltraPixel photographs.

The 3,000mAh battery that the phone comes along with has drawn the ire of some mobile enthusiasts who deem it to be a tad less to fuel the phablet-sized display.

The HTC U Ultra is expected to hit the market this quarter although the exact availability details have not yet been specified. The best price for HTC U Ultra in India is expected to be around 50,000 INR. You can also subscribe to Smartprix alerts to get latest updates regarding HTC U Ultra.

HTC U Ultra review

The HTC U Ultra sets off on a new path of design but stays on the familiar footing of high-caliber camera and audio. A Dual Display makes a surprise appearance as the stalwart headphone jack is left behind. The main screen is a 5.7" Super LCD5 panel covered in Gorilla Glass 5 or, for the fancier 128GB model, Sapphire crystal glass. The supplementary screen adds 2.05" worth of space for vital notifications and reminders, but we didn't see any apps make use of the extra room for additional controls.

HTC U Ultra Review

The HTC U Ultra is not a bad device. It's beautiful, well-built and plays home to a lot of good ideas. I think HTC was right to build a big phone, and the way it wants to subtly integrate an AI assistant into that second screen is genuinely smart. It's just unfortunate that the good ideas here have been obscured by bad design decisions and what seems to be a terminal a lack of focus. Now, it's very, very possible we'll see another flagship phone from HTC before the year is over. read more →

HTC U Ultra Review

The HTC U Ultra is just too big. It’s bigger than the Note7 and the Nexus 6P, yet the U Ultra has a 5.7-inch screen, just like those two competitors. It’s bigger than the 5.9-inch Huawei Mate 9. It’s even bigger than the rumored dimensions of the Galaxy S8+, which will reportedly sport a 6.2-inch display. And it absolutely dwarfs the LG G6. read more →

  • Shiny back is shiny.
  • Second screen can be useful at times.
  • Sound quality is stellar.
  • Frame is just too big.
  • No headphone jack or water resistance.
  • Battery too small to get through most days.

HTC U Ultra Review

The U Ultra is a relatively attractive handset that comes with a nice assortment of extras (like that case and the really good-sounding earbuds), has solid performance, a boatload of local storage, and offers a decently satisfying camera. But it's still a phone that feels too large for its own hardware, one that seriously skimps on battery capacity, and comes up a little half-baked in the software department.Maybe the biggest oversight HTC's making with the release of the U Ultra is its pricing, and how the phone's positioned in the company's lineup. read more →

  • Eye-catching mirror-finish design
  • Good performance, adequate RAM, and tons of storage
  • Dependable camera, front and back
  • Both speakers and included earbuds sound really nice
  • Price, price, price
  • Confoundingly small battery
  • Software features aren't the value-add HTC needs
  • No analog headphone adapter
