HTC Magic review: Practical magic
It was a pleasure having the HTC Magic around. The little fella puts the young OS into a nicely-looking device with much broader appeal than the G1. The Magic performed quite well, all the more so considering that its platform is just about coming of age. It does have a few flaws and they do count against when choosing your next handset but the handling and the novelty are a huge point in favor.
So, the HTC Magic is a reasonable purchase now, and has the potential to a become a bargain in the future.read more →

The second Google Android phone finally lands: with new features and an upgraded interface, it's a belter
In short, this is a very good upgrade from HTC, which has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the last 18 months, and all we can do now is salivate at the prospect of a year chock-full with new Android handsets. However, they'll all have to go the extra mile to beat this new kid on the block.read more →

HTC Magic Review
In a nutshell, the HTC Magic offers a slimmer and smaller form factor than the G1 but lacks a QWERTY keyboard. Software wise, they are almost identical (once the G1 is updated to Android 1.5) and there isn’t anything too cool about the Magic. It is a nice phone - it feels nice in the hand, the on-screen keyboard is well-implemented - but we are disappointed that it is lacking the Sense UI that would really give it the “WOW” factor.read more →
- Much smaller size than the G1
- Expandable memory
- Access to App Market for purchasing and downloading apps
- Same old interface as the G1
- miniUSB connector requires an adapter for using a traditional 3.5mm headset
- Awkward connectivity to a computer
- Lack of multi-touch
HTC Magic review
The Google Ion is the Android device for which we've been waiting. A few complaints remain, but its eye-catching design and interface, improved features, and satisfying performance make us excited about Android's full potential.read more →
- The Google Ion (aka the HTC Magic) has a sleek, attractive design with a gorgeous display, tactile controls, and an easy-to-use interface. Features include stereo Bluetooth, seamless integration with Google apps, Wi-Fi, quick access to music and application downloads, and a broad degree of customization. Call quality is excellent and the 3G speeds are zippy.
- The Google Ion lacks full Outlook-syncing support and a standard 3.5-millimeter headset jack. Video quality is uneven and the HTML browser interface could be refined. Camera-editing and personal-organizer options are slim, and the landscape keyboard isn't available in all applications.
HTC Magic
The new Android 1.5 software adds quite a number of features to this smartphone compared with the Dream, but HTC needs to iron out a few niggles to make it better.
The 1,340mAh battery in the HTC Magic gave it a battery life of about 1.5 days on a single charge. This was better than the one day we got with the Dream, but would still require daily charging, especially if you use a lot of data and turn on mail auto-sync.read more →
