Asus 8Z Details

Asus 8Z is a high-end smartphone loaded with an inciting Snapdragon 888 chipset paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage. Also, it brings a 5.9-inch AMOLED panel protected with Gorilla Glass Victus, an in-display fingerprint scanner, a 64MP dual-rear & a 12MP selfie camera, fast charging feature for its 4,000mAh battery, etc. Read more about it and see if it is worth buying at the asking price.

Asus 8Z Display and Camera

Asus 8Z includes a compact 5.9-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a punch-hole notch. It has an FHD+ display with a resolution of 1080x2400px and 446ppi. On top of that, the display comes with an HDR10+ feature that enhances its color details and picture quality. Besides, the panel is protected with a layer of Gorilla Glass Victus for better durability.

The backside of the phone flaunts a tiny rectangular camera island with an LED flash. It features a 64MP primary camera with an aperture of f/1.8 and a 12MP ultrawide camera with autofocus supported. And, the smartphone sports a 12MP punch-hole camera with a screen flash for assisting selfies and video chats.

Asus 8Z Performance and Battery

Asus 8Z is powered by an industry-leading Snapdragon 888 octa-core processor mounted on a 5nm chipset. It is paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and an Adreno 660 GPU onboard that improves the gaming and multitasking abilities of the phone. As for the software, it runs on the Android 11 (upgradable to Android 12) operating system with ZenUI on top.

The smartphone packs a 4,000mAh Li-Po battery under the hood. Also, it is supported by a 30W fast charger that delivers 0-100% of charge in 80-minutes, Asus claims. Considering the asking price, the phone lacks a wireless charging feature which might disappoint some buyers.

Asus 8Z Storage and Connectivity

Asus 8Z comes with built-in UFS 3.1 storage that boosts apps/games’ launch time and data transfer speed. The phone offers 128GB of internal storage for keeping documents and other files. However, it lacks an SD card slot which limits its storage capacity.

The connectivity options of the smartphone are 5G (in-selected markets) 4G VoLTE with dual standby, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC for contactless payments, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Besides, it has GPS with dual-band A-GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BDS, QZSS, and India’s NavIC for online location tracking.

Brilliant

King of compact phones Pros - DAC tuning - Excellent audio output Brilliant S Amoled Display 120Hz Refresh Rate is buttery smooth Compact and easy to handle Gorgeous Back Camera Cons - Only 30W charger is provided Power button is a bit delicate Average Front Camera Heats sometimes (Problem is with the chipset - every phone with 888 processor will be having it) Overall the best compact powerful smartphone you can find in the market.

Worth every penny

magnum opus: This is the 2nd Asus phone I have bought this year , I still am rocking my Rog 5. You will see lots of comments on lots of phone reviews saying "beast mobile" and "good selfies".This review isn't that , feel free to ignore. This device right here is an engineering marvel, it's as tiny as phones from 5 years ago with specs that rival or beat big brands from it's class. Asus has picked right where lg left off and took the road less taken from a now mainstream OnePlus. If you're buying this, you already know what you need, you need a compact phone with a headphone jack with 32bit hifi audio. You need something you are sure will not configure your jawline again when you drop it on your face, eventually. You are buying this because you know how much nonsense a 3 camera setup with 1 million pixels and a 2mp macro camera makes that always tries to make your skin look like a polished ceramic bowl. It even has a notification led in the bottom, I missed that thing. Asus's ZENFONE 8,yes, I am not calling it 8z,is a device that checks all the boxes on paper and then does more in real life. The cameras take true to life pics, tinker with manual mode and you may surprise yourself. The screen is bright, colors pop, it's visible under the sun and the 120hz means 120hz all the time, not like some other brands that make it 60hz just because you are not using their pre-installed browser. The phone will get hot, like any other phone with snapdragon 888 and higher,it can't be helped with, it's how Qualcomm is designing their chips and this won't go away. The battery will last a fair bit if you don't push it hard, play hardcore games and prepare for a recharge sooner than later. I bought it because I care for proper stereo speakers, I care that 30w charger that comes IN THE BOX can also charge my laptop when needed since it's power delivery compatible, unlike some brands that advertise 120w charger that can only charge their phone and charge everything else at 10w. I bought it because it has a decent dac, Qualcomm aqstic audio which can drive my final audio e3000 and let me have my music as god intended, though my Rog 5 stays the king there. My rog 5 will stay with me and so will my Zenfone 8. Granted, updates will be slower with Asus, it's not that big in smartphone world but it's still better than some customised ui where they tell you what you should do with everything you interact with and then reward you with ads. I'll take Asus's stock Android ui anyday over an iPhone-ish skin on Android 99 with "recommendations" Thank you Asus for making a proper enthusiast device, I appreciate it and you can have my 43000.

Does the job

I always wanted a compact flagship Android phone and here I'm now writing this review after purchasing this phone. Its really excellent phone with super built quality. *Only thing that concern me at the moment is battery drain. Hope Asus will fix this in upcoming updates. I have updated to most recent software version but still no improvement. **And there is heating issue as well. ***Also Asus is pretty late/lazy in updating softwares (security updates and Google Play system updates). I'll update this review if I feel any changes in battery performance after updating to upcoming updates.
