If you are an avid YouTube fan and TikTok admirer, then there is good news coming your way. Youtube is reportedly working for options to post short videos on its feed in order to compete against rival TikTok. YouTube is naming this ‘Shorts’ as reported by The Information.

YouTube Shorts will be an added feature to existing YouTube, allowing users to create and post short videos, reports suggested. To ensure the availability of music to feature in the videos, Google-owned YouTube will use the extensive collection of licensed music it already has in its library.

So, when will Youtube Shorts go live? Hopefully by the end of the year 2020.

Since the launch of the Chinese video streaming app TikTok back in 2016, short-format videos have seen a huge surge in popularity around the globe. Tiktok had to create and nurture its own userbase over the years but YouTube will enjoy a healthy headstart. With billions of existing active users, YouTube might very well excel soon in the short video domain.

TikTok has had to face several controversies and regulatory hurdles globally. TikTok was earlier banned in India and was removed from Google and Apple app stores. The app is apparently banned on US government phones where it is deemed to be a national security threat. Seeing the circumstances, YouTube may have a chance to nail its rival.

As we stated above, YouTube Shorts will be deployed by the end of 2020. If it were somehow available today, people stuck in their houses due to coronavirus lockdown would have had one more interesting app to entertain themselves.
