Xiaomi will launch the first phone under its new ‘Poco’ sub-brand, Poco F1, on August 22 at a media event in New Delhi. The Pocophone F1 is expected to be an aggressively priced flagship phone powered by the top-shelf Snapdragon 845 octa-core mobile platform.

What is Poco?

Poco, which literally means ‘Little’ in Spanish, is a new Xiaomi Sub Brand whose development is being spearheaded by Jai Mani, Lead product manager at Xiaomi India.

As Jai Mani described in a Twitter post, ‘Poco is all about making a powerful smartphone with the technologies that matter.”

In spite of several attempts, Xiaomi hasn’t been able to successfully break ground in the premium segment. Till date, Mi Mix 2S and Mi 5 are the only two phones that Xiaomi has priced above Rs 20,000 mark in India.

In 2018, the premium smartphone segment has shown remarkable growth and Xiaomi obviously doesn’t want to miss out on the action. It’s quite clear that with Poco F1, Xiaomi will try to place an alternative to OnePlus 6.

Poco F1 Features and Specifications

It’s almost certain that the Poco F1 will employ Snapdragon 845 chipset and house a 4000mAh battery.

As Jai Mani detailed, the Poco F1 has been developed from the ground up. Xiaomi will perhaps reinvent its design ethos for the new brand.

Going by the leaks, the Poco F1 will run MIUI software and not stock Android as was being rumored initially.

Credible leaks point to a use of 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with a notch, 6GB RAM, 64GB storage, 20MP front camera, Dual rear cameras (with dual-pixel sensor), and Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging.
