Continuing with its pre-festival-season launch spree, Xiaomi India will bring in Redmi 6 to India, according to a report by renowned YouTube channel Sharmaji Technical. Interestingly, with Redmi 6, Xiaomi will be using a MediaTek chipset on a phone in India after a gap of around 4 years.

Why Xiaomi doesn’t sell MediaTek phones in India?

In 2014, Ericsson filed a law suit against Xiaomi and a Delhi High Court order stayed Xiaomi retailing MediaTek based phones in India.

This law suit proved to a blessing in disguise. Xiaomi went in to a yearlong slump, but reinvented itself with a Qualcomm partnership. Indeed, use of powerful Qualcomm chipsets for affordable price has been one of the key factors responsible for Xiaomi’s meteoric rise in India.

However, the dispute has long been settled and Xiaomi is now free to sell MediaTek powered phones in India.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Features

The upcoming Redmi 6 will be powered by Helio P22 octa-core mobile platform paired with up to 4GB RAM and up to 64GB storage. The Helio P22, that recently went official in July this year, is a 12nm based chipset with 8x Cortex-A53 cores (2.0GHz) that will bring AI to affordable phones.

The Redmi 6 is a compact phone that comes with an (18:9) 5.45-inch HD+ display. No. notch. The handset has a 12MP+5MP dual rear cameras and a 5MP selfie camera on the front. Other highlights include Android 8.1 Oreo based MIUI 9 software, 3.5mm Audio Jack, Dual SIM, 4G VoLTE support, and a 3000mAh battery.

It’s worth mentioning that Xiaomi also launched Redmi 6 Pro in China, which later launched globaly as the Android One phone, Mi A2 Lite. It isn’t very likely that Xiaomi will launch another SD 625 phone in India at this point in time, so the chances of the Pro variant making it to India are slim.
