Xiaomi has announced two new feature phones – Qin1 and Qin 1S – that have been crowdfunded on the Chinese Youpin website.

For a smartphone maker known the world over for selling competent smartphones at razor thin margins, stepping into the feature phone zone may seem like a step backward, but it’s still a logical move. The market for 4G feature phones is on a rise in India and in China and this is surely something Xiaomi can benefit phone.

Xiaomi’s feature phones support 4G, have a keypad and support real-time multi-lingual voice translation that is backed by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning.

Xiaomi Qin1 and Qin1s Price

The Xiaomi Qin1 and Qin1s cost CNY 199 (approx Rs. 2000) in China. These phones will be available in Black and White color options and will retail in China starting September 15.

Xiaomi Qin1, Qin1s Features

The main talking point of the two phones is real-time translation (supported in 17 languages). Although, it’s still hard to fathom why feature phones users would care about this particular feature as much. There is plenty more on offer.

The two phones have 2.8-inch QVGA (240×320 pixels) IPS display, IR blaster that can be used to control home appliances, T9 keypad, Dpad for navigation,  and Dual SIM support. The two phones also have USB Type-C port for data transfer and charging.

The Qin1 is powered by dual-core MediaTek MT6260A SoC coupled with 8MB RAM and 16MB storage. The 4G variant of Qin1s is powered by dual-core Spreadtrum SC9820E paired with 256MB of RAM and 512MB of storage.

Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth v4.2, and GPS.
