Xiaomi Mi 6 And Samsung Galaxy S8 Launch Delayed Due To Snapdragon 835 Shortage

Samsung promised to wow its consumers with the S8 and is prudently moving forward with the launch. Last week, we came across rumors suggesting that the Galaxy S8 won’t be unveiled at MWC 2017 as has been the tradition so far, but a couple of months later in April. Now we have a reason substantiating these claims.

Reportedly, it is the shortage of Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chips that is causing the delay. Not only Galaxy S8, but also the launch of Xiaomi’s next flagship, Mi6, that was slated for February, shall be delayed to April.

The Snapdragon 835 is based on Samsung’s 10nm FinFET process and theoretically offers 27 percent performance boost while consuming 40 percent less power compared to the Snapdragon 821. Samsung production capacity can not match the demand.

Apart from Snapdragon 835 powered Mi6 and Galaxy S8, Meizu M7 that’s powered by 10nm Process based Helio X30 will also be delayed.

Apparently, launch delay is not the only buzz kill. The new Galaxy S8 and other flagships due next year will also be 15 to 20 percent more expensive at the behest of increase in the cost of raw materials.
