Xiaomi’s India head Manu Jain just tweeted that the Chinese Smartphone maker is going to bring in its first dual camera smartphone to India next month (September 2017), which all but confirms that Mi 5X is on its way.

Xiaomi also introduced dual camera setup in its flagship Mi 6, but the company isn’t very likely to bring in Mi 6 in India, reportedly because its expensive Mi series phones haven’t sold well in the past.

The Mi 5x, instead, is a comparatively low-cost phone that brandishes the same dual camera system as the Mi 6. It has a metal unibody design and looks a lot like iPhone 7 Plus or the OnePlus 5.

The Mi 5x was recently introduced in China as the launch pad for Xiaomi’s latest MIUI 9 software. The handset is powered by 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 processor paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

There are two 12MP sensors on the rear and the extra sensor has a telephoto lens for optical Zoom. The camera app has a ‘Portait mode’ (again like iPhone 7 Plus and OnePlus 5) for adding bokeh effect. That’s also the mode that Manu Jain is using in the portrait shot attached with the tweet.

Needless to say, the Mi 5x will be an aggressively priced dual camera phone, one that could initiate the flooding of extra sensor phones in the budget price range.
