WhatsApp comes up with a host of new features for voice messages

Messaging giant WhatsApp always keeps working on making the messenger even better for its users. Now, the Meta-owned company has announced a host of new features for voice messages on their app. These were reported via a blog post by WhatsApp and aim to make the messaging experience even better.

“When we first launched voice messaging in 2013, we knew it could change the way people communicate,” the company said in its post. “Every day on WhatsApp, our users send 7 billion voice messages on average, all of which are protected by end-to-end encryption to keep them private and secure at all times,” it added.

Here are the 6 new features that have been introduced-

  1. Pause/Resume Recording- When recording a voice message, you can now pause the recording and resume when ready, in case you’re interrupted or need to gather your thoughts.
  1. Draft Preview- You will be able to listen to your recorded message before sending it.
  2. Out of Chat Playback- Listen to any voice message outside of the chat so that you can multitask or read and respond to other messages.
  3. Waveform Visualization- It will show you a visual representation of the sound on the voice message to help follow the recording.
  4. Fast Playback – You can now play the messages you have received at faster speeds, that is 1.5x or 2x to make the listening process faster.
  5. Remember Playback- If you get interrupted while listening to a message and had to pause it in between, then you can hit play and resume from where you left when you return to the chat.

The new features are expected to roll out in the coming weeks.

WhatsApp claims, “Showing emotion or excitement through voice is more natural than text, and in many situations, voice messages are the preferred form of communication on WhatsApp.”

Earlier in January 2022, reports claimed that WhatsApp is planning to bring many new features this year. These included-

  • Hiding your ‘last seen’ from specific people.
  • No time limit for deleting the messages you have sent.
  • Reacting to messages with images being enabled.
  • A new community feature gives more control to admins over different aspects.
  • There will be an option of logging out of WhatsApp instead of ‘Delete Account’.
  • WhatsApp is expected to get an Instagram Reels section on its app to allow users to watch Instagram reels directly from messaging app.
  • ‘Read later’ feature will make sure that WhatsApp will not send notifications for that chat.
  • Users will be able to create their stickers.
  • WhatsApp Insurance will allow you to buy insurance via WhatsApp in India.
